Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Side cutter To the sewing ladies: Do you use a side cutter? Do you like it? How often & where do you get it sharpened or does it wear out before it needs sharpening? THANKS!

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | It's an add on to the foot. It (in theory) cuts the material along the sewn edge. I sent Cathy a msg so maybe she'll tell us what she knows

| hi no I don't use a side cutter. I do have a serger and if I want to "trim" my seams I finish the seam with the serger.

Thanks Shinja Trying to decide what "cool tools" I should dream about The side cutter seems less complicated than a serger but I'm sure it has limitations.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | From what I can tell it trims close to the finished edge.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I never did buy the side cutter although I'd still really love to hear from anyone who uses or has used one.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I have a serger that does that but I would not use a side cutter on my sewing machine. I like having a seam allowance just incase I need to take it out a little. Maybe just me

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | I have no idea what that is either. Lol. So much to learn in sewing! I know I do want a serger though. Once I made Mom a few outfits I see how beneficial they can be.

I have one -- came with my machine -- I've only used it a couple of times and never on my doggie clothes. I used it to make my son some costume pants and pajamas. It took some time to get my zig zag stitch to the right width/ length etc. but once I got it I really liked it. I thought it gave a more "finished" look and I didn't have to iron any seams. I'm afraid to try it on my doggie clothes because I'm so set in my routine. I'm kind of old-fashioned that way | |
