| Breeding small Yorkies irresponible? Depends,.. While I am not a Vet, I am a doctor and in my opinion I think people make way too much of stink about this issue. I have been Showing, & breeding Toys for over 15 years and I have always had dogs that were smaller on the spectrum & have NEVER had a C-sec. I am not saying that I advocate breeding a two pound Yorkie, but I breed my 3.5 pound yorkie and she is by far the best whelper I have ever had. She has them much easier than any of the larger dogs. She comes from a long line of easy whelpers and has continued the tradition. It is obvious that both geneitc & physical traits contribute to a bitches ability to have pups. So to write people nasty messages incinuating that they are doing somthing wrong is rediculous. Most of these finger pointers don't have a clue what they are talking about. Again, my advice would be to put your money on a Bitch that comes from an easy whelping lin rather than buy the biggest one you can find & cross your fingers. Just so that I am clear and to avoid being chastised for this post I want to make clear that I don't advocate breeding a dog that is obviously unable to whelp successfully, but come on people ANY DOG COULD have a C-Sec. ANY of them run that possibility, so to suggest that someone is endangering their dog because they bred their 4 pound yorkie is both False and hypocritical. Every time we breed ANY of our dogs we run a risk for complications. So with that being said, Breed responsibly, think about the future well being of your animal, BE QUALITY CONSCIENCE. Many people clearly spend more time complaining than improving the quality of their stock. I think forum time would be better spent discussing topics that would improve the breed rather than whining about breeders tactics. REPORT PUPPY MILLS! Cheers! |

| yorkies i have beeb breeding for years and my dogs health comes before mine.....i have all of my dogs checked before breeding and a 4 lb female verses a 7 lb....makes no difference....the weights i set for my pups is almost on the money everytime....at 12 weeks times 2 their weight....i even add on the spoiling pounds....i like other yorkie breeders and owners opions....not the neg. ones......i would NEVER put my babies at any risk....very respected breeder and yorkie lover here......i have 11 spoiled, healthy, beautiful yorkies so i must be doing something right....all in my bed sleeping. |

you are so right about everything you said. i bred a seven pound gal, had a c-section. I bred a four and a half pound girl known to be a free whelper and she just popped five little ones out one right the other. i think finding out if your dog is from a line of free whelpers is much more important than as you said, buying a big dog and keeping your fingers crossed. | |

I personally know too many breeders that breed tinies, because of their market value. They do this knowing that they are going to require a c-section, but do it anyway. Is right? Not my call, it's their female. I just know I'll take my advice from the pros, and continue practicing what they have taught me based on their years studying genetics, breeding, etc.

Pat yourself on the back for never having had issues or C-sections. The fact that you are doctor means nothing. I won't disagree that the bitche's genetics and physical traits do contribute to her ability to have pups.........BUT not everyone knows that about their bitch. Heck, look at all the undeducated breeders that come here asking questions a mile a minute. If they hear something they don't like-they get angry and say "I've been breeding for X long"......... The fact that some people breed means nothing. Take a good look at this place and see how in a way it's BYB central. Some people are just out to make a quick buck, come here thinking everyone is naive around here, and/or join just to advertise........don't do a darn thing to improve or contribute to the breed. Don't take time to learn the right way and don't want to either.......... Those same folks are supplying the naive and uneducated buyers who join looking for a cute little yorkie.......it's a cycle. Don't assume that because YOU have NEVER had problems others don't. You claim you are not advocating the breeding of tinies.............well, yes you are. An uneducated person will take your wonderful experience of a doctor (they know it all )...........and validate the desire to breed. I say....breed your 2 or 3lb female if you'd like........just please don't come in here asking questions, concerns and posting disasters........some of us would rather never know. Oh and one last thing.........I don't agree with going after the puppy mills..........at least they you can clearly see who they are. Beware of those who are sneaky (a.k.a BYB)
