I have problems trusting breeders... I had a horrible experience and do not want to repeat it. If anyone one can recommend a breeder in California or Nevada or neighboring states, please reply.

Im sure you will find a trusting breeder. However, since you had just lost Monty to Parvo I would wait on getting a pup since the parvo could possibly still be in your house. I think it takes up to 6 months for the parvo virus to die in your house

Bleach still isn't 100%!! You can not possibly kill all the virus with cleaning. Bleach will kill the parts it contacts with, but while you are cleaning one spot, others are popping up. Parvo is a very dangerous virus, as you well know. Even with the shots Monty got for it, still didn't kill it. He may even have gotten it from the vets office! Unlikely, but entirely possible. If you took him to the park (or wherever), and he came in contact with the virus from another dog having it, then he could get it. If another person that had been looking for a puppy at the same time you were, came in contact with the virus, Monty could have gotten it. There are so many ways he could have gotten it, it's hard to blame the breeder entirely. I am not trying to stick up for the breeder, mainly because I don't even know where you got him. But you never know. Parvo is UGLY!!! If someone contact me (when I have pups for sale), and they tell me that their pup (or older dog) just died of Parvo, I flat out WILL NOT SELL THEM A PUP!!! Sorry about that, but I won't. I had one lady get real irriate with me when she told me her puppy just died from Parvo and I wouldn't sell her one. She said "It's MY money, why would you care?" I said "Because it's MY Puppy, and I DO CARE!!!" End of conversation.

If I were you, I would wait for at the very least 6 months before I even tried to get another dog. It's better if you wait for a year. I know it's hard, but please do yourself a favor and wait.

JMO, but I'm sticking with it!!

Ditto! Please wait 6 months. I know yoou are hurting and just want a new puppy to fill the void but please dont take the chance of a new pup getting parvo

Thank you all for your comments. To the breeder that said they won't sell to a home with recent Parvo: Sounds like you are a Great Breeder and a true loving person!!! I wish I purchased from you. My breeder seemed nice but not Parvo savy at all. Please share your thoughts after reading what I have learned. try to have an open mind about the parvo waiting period, from what 3 different vets had say, there is a lot of confusion and misinformation about the waiting period. I am open to all your thoughts.

I have educated myself like crazy on this parvo thing and have called numerous vets, hopitals, hours online researching and what I have come up with is this. (And trust me, I have some selfish ways, but no way am i going to expose a new baby to Parvo and put another dog through what monty went through again.)

they majority say 1 to 2 months if you bleach everything, if you do not bleach at all, they say 6 months. Parvo does not survie as long indoors as it does out doors due to lack of mosture, etc.

We bleached everything and I mean everything. In addition to the recent bleaching, in 4 to 5 weeks, we are going to Bleach everything a second time and have the rugs professionally clean with bleach (we have white rugs) for the second time.

I would like to pass on a website that a champion papillion breeder turned me on to. The papillion breeder is a true intellect especially when it comes to dogs and I trust her and respect her, you all would too if you knew her... she is truly one of your peeps. This article helped me make my decision to consider brining in a puppy in two months instead of 6 months along with all 3 vets and 2 hospitals who said 1 to 2 months is ok with bleaching, and if no bleaching... at least 6 months. Hell, we still don't know if it was Parvo!! But don't worry, I am not taking my chances.

I think I am going to bring this article to the next breeder, hoping that the puppy is young enough too start receiving this particular vaccine. We are hoping to pick out a dog that is still too young to bring home so that we can catch it in time to make sure they get this particular vaccine. I will offer to pay more for it if necessary. If we didn't have a recent parvo experience, I would still want to have this vaccine for mainly peace of mind. I have a feeling that my breeders vet is not up on the best vacinnes... hell, he sent an infected dog home to a house with new born puppies!!! He should have kept Monty in the hospital. Got to go, getting angry again.

GREAT POST AND GREAT BREEDER HERE. I wish there was a drive thru clinic here on giving shots, by not having to go into the office where others have been with Parvo, etc. I heard they have this in some other states

I definately would be willing to wait the six months.

I read the thread on Parvo. And it does say that bleach will kill the virus. My only concern would be "what if I missed a spot?" or "an area". I'd be scared to death personally. Yes, there's a lot of misinformation and confusion about this desease and the recommended waiting period. And what works for one, is not always the best. The information on the TAMIFLU and the NEOPAR is good information. I will keep searching for info on these two.

If you do go ahead and get a puppy, make sure you have his shot record!! Preferrable from a vet. (I'm going to get slammed here by the breeders that give their own shots. Sorry guys. I know we give our own shots (me included!). And that's not usually a problem. But if you don't know the breeder or have a reference for the breeder, you never know if what the breeder says is truthful.) And keep up with the shots in the time recommended. So many people (and I am not saying "YOU") forget to get the shots when they are needed and have to re-do shots.

I still say, wait. 6 months is not an eternity!!
