| KY family looking for a female teapot Yorkie! Hi all! I live in the Louisville area and am looking for a larger female yorkie. Our current yorkie weighs about 12-13 pounds and we really want to breed him, so the female would need to be at least that big, if not larger. She would also need to be AKC registered, like our current yorkie. Does anyone have any hints on how to start trying to find a bigger yorkie? We have looked and looked, but breeders only seem to sell the smaller ones. Please let me know if you have any puppies or any leads or advice about how to go about finding a bigger girl for our yorkie. Thanks!! |

| Hi. Thanks for your responses. First, I want to say that we are very responsible dog owners, and perhaps breed was the wrong word to use. We are looking for another pet first and foremost, and we are hoping they will have puppies so that we, as a family, can keep them and each keep a puppy (we are a family of seven people), not so we can sell them so random people we don't know. We have no intention of selling the puppies. Secondly, I have also lived in KY my whole life, and I have no idea what bearing that has on the fact that I'm looking for a larger yorkie, or why are referencing my "typical mindset." I don't know what is appalling about wanting to buy a pet to love and hoping that your pets have puppies. Again, we want another pet and we are hoping they will have puppies down the road. I came on this site because it seems like everyone is very knowledgeable about yorkies and I wanted advice. |

| To be honest, I'm a little confused/offended by the tone of these messages...I'm a newcomer to this site, and again, I'm looking for advice because I love my yorkie and would love to have a little piece of him when he is gone. I would hope others can relate. I guess I'm just shocked that someone would assume I just want to breed my dog in a willy-nilly fashion that is offensive to the AKC. As breeders, I understand you're concerned about the integrity of your profession. As an attorney, however, I also know there is a way to convey your message without being rude or patronizing to someone. I'm also appalled that someone would tell me to neuter my dog just because he weighs over 7 lbs. I love my dog regardless of his size. Perhaps I should delete my account. |

Please don't delete your account. This is a learning site and to learn we need the pro's who have been there, done that and can pass on the knowledge to us. I also have a larger Yorkie. He's 16lbs and beautiful however I know he should not be breed he's way off standard. In order to keep the breed healthy and within standard it's important that people be responsible in breeding. Yes you love your dog, yes he's beautiful but he's just not what a Yorkie should be. Period. No disrespect to you but it is what it is. The Yorkeshire Terrior is a toy breed. It did start out larger, as we all know, but over years of breeding has become smaller and today's Yorkie by AKC standards is under 7lbs. I would also like to see them larger but that's not going to happen. It's important to respect the breed, want what's best for it and breed only to better it. Genetic's also play a huge role in breeding. Look around this site and you will read more Yorkies having some sort of health problem even tho they are within standard due to breeder's who didn't care about the health of the breed only about making $ off of it. No disrespect for you but you owe it to the breed not to delibertley breed such a large Yorkie and bring more pups into the world that no one would want but your family. That's not being cruel only honest. The pounds are full of unwanted dogs. Rescues are full of over grown Yorkies because people don't care what they breed. It's the dog's who suffer in the end. I hope you stay. Learn, enjoy and make friends. | |
