| As you know the basics begin with genetics. Nutrition and coat cleanliness are the components to growing coat. Keep the coat clean, bathing every 4 days and of course wrapping when the coat is long enough. Feeding a good diet is also needed. Never brush a dry or dirty coat.

Not sure I'd bath this often, especially using wraps. May have better results by wrapping and leaving it alone. Just checking it to make sure they're in place. Not sure what you need to wash out this often but it's something you may consider. That was supposed to be a quote. Last edited by Elle; 03-15-2010 at 12:21 PM. |

I bath once a week and wrap once the coat touches the floor. Here is one of my yorkies. As you can see she has a great coat - and this is after I have cut off about 3 inches. | |

| Do you keep him in oil?? I do when they are about 6-8 months I start and then there after. Then I wrap once the coat gets to the floor. Each coat is different how you take care of it and what exactly you use. Depends too if they scratch - I put booties on their back feet to avoid breakage. Also make sure he is not rubbing on sofa, carpet, anything like that. There are wraping jackets they can wear to help this - but you must wrap their coat while wearing this and check coat every night. But only bath him once a week. Ask your breeder to help you - you need mentoring. |

| Another person said they don't have mentors in England. Do you have one? I'm just curious. You asked for a reason. I understand. Tina's right about what she said. Here's some more info for you. Use wraps once the coat touches the ground. You should band his face and hiney now. You bath weekly in wraps. If he isn't in wraps, don't wait a week if he's dirty. If he's peeing on his coat he needs it cleaned. NO, not every few days. What products are you using? Are you using an oil or leave in conditioner/protector product now? How are you using it? If you haven't started using an oil, know this. Some oils require bathing every 4 days. Some once a week. Some are not actual oils but protector or conditioners we refer to as oil. Never brush him unless you just bathed him. Find a product you like to protect the coat (oil). You can find many good products. Try Vellus, Plush puppy, Pure Paws, Summerwinds, Almond oil, olive oil, Emu, Lanolin. There are many products available. I use a mix. Band him. Start wrapping when it touches the ground. Get your oil. You may use an oil type of product prior to wraps. Depends what kind and how you use it. Don't put it into the skin, just the coat. Buy a wrap jacket to use only when hes in wraps. Once you know you have proper size you can buy more. They come in size 1,2 or 3. Protect the coat. No bows unless you are in the ring. |

| Now with my boys I wraped their side coat hairs to keep them up and clean until I could wrap their whole coat. You must keep the hair on the sides up with boys. I sometimes also use a satin belly band and this helps, but they do not wear it at night - just when they are out in the livingroom/kitchen during the day playing. That is great that you are going to let his coat grow. I have three right now in full coats. It is not too bad. I had one judge that was so nice and told me what a great job I had done and she could tell the work I put into it. That is my girl in the photo I shared. She is a character - so sweet. She does great in wraps and plays with no problems at all. Last edited by topknot; 03-16-2010 at 01:56 PM. |
