♥ Mama's Boy ♥ Donating Member | ![]() I don't know the first thing about showing, all I know is that Yorkies have are beautiful and they are wonderful dogs to have. But I was wondering how do you keep the male dogs from peeing on there coat? I have to keep Tobie's hair short for this reason, so how do they pee without getting pee on themselves?? sorry if it is a stupid question but I have alway wanted to know.

| ![]() There are several things you can do. One thing is to put a belly band on the male. Many of your show breeders keep their show dogs in wraps and also a belly band. Some people just put scrunchies on the coat. Some show breeder keep the dogs in oil so the urine does not damage the coat but the coat will still get icky and the dogs have to be bathed about every 3 days. Another thing that helps is to let the hair on the penis grow out so it is a inch or two long. The hair serves as a wick and when they pee the urine will not spray as bad. |

| ![]() Well, I have never heard that. I would not think it would be a problem as long as the dog is getting regular bathes. Where I have the problem with long hair on the sheath is when it comes to breeding. The hair get caught inside the sheath, folding the sheath inside and preventing the penis to retract properly. If I am using a male for breeding I usually cut the hair on the sheath. I don't know how other breeders deal with that problem. |
