I have a "dog brush" I got at Target, but I'm finding it doesn't do as good of a job as I'd like. It seems to miss little mats under the topcoat. I have been using a combination of the brush and a comb, but I would like something better. Any suggestions for a good yorkie grooming brush? I want Jackson to look his handsome little best!

I lift the top hair and make sure that I get the little mats that are underneath. I brush mine from the bottom and go up with a pin brush that has no balls on the end. I always try very hard not to touch their skin as it can damage the skin or make it irritated. Keeping them in a full coat is a little extra work but so worth it as they glide across the room. I was also told never to brush them dry. So I use a little of cowboy magic mixed with water and lightly spray the coat and it helps keep him shiney and silky. I brush our maltese the same way but it takes me a lot longer as her hair is so much thicker. I actually have four different size pin brushes for brushing around the different areas like around their face. The little brush doesn't look so intimidating as I brush their beards and mustaches. LOL I very sledom use the slicker brush that was given me when I bought the yorkie. I just work hard at keeping them brushed every day and that reduces my time and their having to sit still.

A natural bristle, like boar's bristle is a good idea.

Oooops! Yes, I have one of those too.......use it for the finishing touch after the brush out or inbetween when they sit with me and watch TV.

It took me a long time to spend the money on a really good brush but the Chris Christensen brushes are really nice - they're pricey but with my girls long hair - worth it

I don't know... I've tried a few different brushes, dog brushes or boar bristle ones and the thing that does it best for me is a metal comb, one side wide-toothed and the other thin... Brushing Pepper takes about 10 minutes every day, I guess I'm lucky...

I am interested in purchasing one of Chris Christensen fushion brushes but i don't no which one to get for a yorkie puppy can anyone tell me which one would be best.

I was at the Long Beach Convention Center today for a dog show and spoke with Chris about his fusion brushes today. I was leaning towards the small oval, but he convinced me the 20 mm oblong was the way to go. He showed that when you comb from the part down, the oblong has more pins that start closer to the part, where as the small oval only had 3 or 4 rows of pins starting at the part. Don't know if it makes sense to anyone -- but he convinced me...

I'll probably try it out this weekend.... The Fusion brushes are supposed to help with static electricity...

Hi I ended up getting the 20mmFusion Brass Oblong and i paid $50.00, It was not cheap

Katherine... that was the price I paid as well... $50 -- but I used it last night, and I was amazed that my 7 month old didn't put up near as much fight as usual! Still have some mats to work on -- am using your suggestion on CM for that -- and gently using a slicker brush for the mats! I think if you order the brush from Chris's site -- you have to pay the additional shipping... 7 bucks or so! I realize $50 sounds like it's high -- but it's worth it to me...
