| [News] Yorkshire Terrier's Murder Stumps S.I. Couple (Link to source w/video) http://wcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_186204351.html Jul 5, 2007 8:50 pm US/Eastern Yorkshire Terrier's Murder Stumps S.I. Couple John Slattery Reporting (CBS) STATEN ISLAND Who killed Eddie? Eddie is a Yorkshire Terrier who was shot and killed on the steps of a Port Richmond, Staten Island home. Michael Buckley and his wife Marie are angered, and stumped over who shot and killed their dog. "It's just horrible,” said Michael Buckley. Horrible." The dog was an eight-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named Eddie. Buckley, a theatre journalist, and his wife Marie, who lived in Manhattan, moved into the home of Marie's mother after she died in April to look after her two dogs and several cats, and they brought along their Yorkie. Tuesday afternoon, he was shot. The Buckleys say Eddie was sitting on the front step, and the front doors were open, when suddenly, he ran into the house, yelping. "He came in like he was shot out of a cannon," said Michael Buckley. Marie Buckley found him in the bathroom. When she picked him up, he was all bloody, and badly bleeding. A veterinarian, who tried to save the dog, extracted a pellet from Eddie's intestine after it pierced the diaphragm and liver. "A neighbor heard three pops,” said Michael Buckley. Two other pellets were found outside, near where the dog was sitting. The Buckleys think Eddie was targeted because he barked at anyone who walked by. A month ago, an anonymous note was left in the mailbox complaining of the barking. And whenever the dog barked, it appears someone sounded a car alarm. "Sometimes the siren would go off five, six, seven times in a row," said Michael Buckley. The ASPCA has been notified and they said the case will be looked into. The Buckleys have hired a private investigator to determine who shot their dog, and are offering a reward for information.

| So Sorry I'm so very sorry about Eddie. What kind of world are we living in.....anyone that would shoot an innocent little dog should be put away. I'll be so glad when we get to heaven and there'll be no more sadness. |

| What a tragedy. Those poor people who lost their precious pet. I am saddened by what this world is coming too. It's just sick! It's quiet where I live, very few children but someone rented across the court from me with a teenage boy. She is never home and he is there with some sleezy friends. They used a bee bee gun and blew out some of my neighbors car windows for fun! This is what happens when kids have no supervision or are bored. But to harm something that is a living breathing creature, that kid has head problems. |

| I would probably suspect a neighbor since there was the barking issue and the note left previously. Who knows??? It's hard to believe there are people in this world who would do something like this. What kind of gun was used? Can anyone tell from the photos? What's the difference between a BB gun and a pellet gun?

| How sad! This is so sad! You can live next to people without really even knowing how they are. Last summer our neighbor across the street came home to a dead previously healthy 1 year old boxer. They believe that he was poisoned. When we are not home, everyone, including our lab/chow is in the house. |

He said he was amazed that the pellet was able to kill the dog, but I guess it hit a sensitive place. My fiance mentioned that you can buy other pellets that are able to kill small animals, but that's not one of them. Overall, that's horrible of what happened to Eddie. | |

| Unbelievable This is the worst story I have ever heard. I am appalled that someone would actually kill a dog because of barking or for any other reason. I bet it was the person that sets of the car alarm and I hope they arrest and prosecute him or her. |
