Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | [News] Dog stolen in purse is returned to store Dog stolen in purse is returned to store The dognapper may be charged with felony theft for stashing the $1,800 Yorkshire terrier in her bag and leaving Petland. BY RON SYLVESTER The Wichita Eagle Colleen Bradley fought back tears Friday as she clutched the puppy stolen from her pet store a week before. "I was really worried about her," Bradley said. Wichita police returned the 8-week-old Yorkshire terrier to the care of Petland on East Kellogg on Friday morning, after a friend recognized the woman who had taken the puppy. Local television stations broadcast the surveillance tape that showed the woman shoplifting the dog. "A friend of the suspect's brought the dog back," said Detective Brad Crumley. Capt. Darrell Haynes said police had identified the woman and ordered her pickup and arrest. Because the dog is worth $1,800, she could face a charge of felony theft. The Yorkie was stolen when the woman asked to look at the dog for possible purchase and adoption. "She came in with a big black bag," Bradley said. The woman left with the dog in the bag. After the broadcast of the security video, Petland's Brad Bockus said the store received a series of anonymous calls that led to the identification of the suspected dognapper. "We're extremely grateful to all the people who came forward to help identify her," Bockus said. After a trip to the veterinarian, the Yorkie will be returned to Petland for sale. "She will be put back with her brother, who is also in the store," Bradley said. "He has been pretty lonely." http://www.kansas.com/213/story/319676.html

| That's what I thought. Great, return him to Petland. But, I know, stealing is wrong.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | Seems like everyone had the same thoughts I did. I bet the poor sweetie had a better life with the thief than she does in that stupid store.

| We all know that pet stores like Petland sell dogs that come from puppy mills! If that yorkie was 8 weeks old and her brother, that's probably where they came from and Petland doesn't deserve the 1800.00 for her! Stealing is wrong, but the puppy would of been better off with the lady that took her than sitting there at Petland. |

| Unfortunately, thats the way it goes in most places. Living on the small island of Okinawa, Japan, I didn't have the options of breeders and waiting until they were older. 8 weeks is when they are sold and most of the time they are gone by 9 or 10 weeks (if they even last that long). I got Kaba at 8 weeks and have had no problems. Most of the world sees that as normal.

| 8 weeks 8 weeks use to be the norm. I am so glad that changed. BUT just remember all those who think the dog would have been better w/ her.... if she would steal from a pet store... she would steal from you. And... who is to say she would even have been keeping her... she might have done it for the money and turned around and sold her to someone on here... who would have then been in possession of stolen property (only then to turn around and lose the puppy they got attached to when someone figured it out later). So, while I don't like pet stores... this is a good thing! |
