| hypoglycemia hi, so my 5 month old yorkie had a really bad upper respiratory infection a few days after we brought her home and ended up in the vet for 3 days because of low blood sugar because she wasnt eating well. This was a month ago and she is doing much better but I still worry. So my question is...she is still a finicky eater but does eat on her own and I always have food out for her...however i notice sometimes after she first wakes up and at other random times her tongue is slightly pale...i know this may be a sign of low blood sugar...but I feel like i am doing everything possible...ie she always has food avail and when she doesnt want to eat her food i cook for her... i give her nutrical as needed after hard plays or stressful times... and she never acts like she is lethargic or sleepy so...i just wondered if there was anything else i should be doing or am i just worried about nothing? |

| Give her steak, ground beef (free range), rice, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs with mild cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, plain yogurt and peanut butter for a snack. Give her a nice femur bone to chew on. JUst take out the marrow and any outside meats. You really do need to get her eating. Dog food wont do the trick. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | hypoglycemia My 10 week old pup is hypoglycemic also....you can search all my posts many are about hypoglycemia, and the responses are great help! Do you cage her at night? That is one of the most stressful things you can do says my vet. They are pack animals, and being seperated brings on a lot of stress. I give nutrical 6 times a day just lil bb size bites he licks it right off the tube. I do it just to make sure he has something in him at all times. WHat food is your baby on? I had many reccomendations for Innova EVO he started EVO friday and he seems to be doing great! My 2 year old yorkie also welcomed the new food. I think your doing everything right, and tongues get slightly pale after sleeping in any dog, blood doesnt flow as much to mouth when sleeping....I'd keep an eye on it, but I really think ur doing great!

| Maybe she doesn't like the food you are feeding her. I would go HERE and ask for free samples from these companies and then see which food she likes best and start leaving that out for her. You can also supplement her food with boiled chicken, rice, pumpkin, yogurt, cottage cheese, or shredded cheese and see if that will get her eating the food you leave out. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | I make what I call a "diggy omlet" mix eggs, chesse, chicken/hamburger, and kibble cook it like scrambled eggs (non stick pan NO OIL or cooking spray) and Diggy eats it up! This is only if he has gone awhile without eating kibble. Since we started the Innova EVO, I have not had to cook for him. 1 warning.....I hope if you try this recipe you have a stove fan... it smells! lol My kids were like uggggggg that is nasty...My reply....go outside then!

| thank you for all the suggestions. still one question?? so i guess i only really notice her gums slightly pale after she wakes up...all the other times she is fine. and i do give her nutrical 3 times a day to make sure she doesnt get low sugar. and we havent had a problem since that one time...however, if i keep feeding her eggs and meat and yogurt and cottage cheese how will i ever get her to eat dog food again?? and its just weird we were giving her wet science diet and dry blue puppy food which she was eating both with no difficulty and now all of sudden she has no interest. should i try another dog food? if so what? and what if she doesnt like that food? she was eating without problems until a few days ago...so could this be a teething issue she might get over? just curious what to do...i am a little neurotic about her i dont want another emergency vet visit it was so horrible and scary!! |

| Hello. I felt compelled to respond to you since I have a little boy who is now 1 1/2 years old and had this problem a lot when he was a puppy. My little boy Murphy was not even that small and had about 6 - 7 spells of hypoglycemia until he finally out grew it (knock on wood). I really think the best thing you can do is make sure your little one gets plenty of food. It is so hard since they are such picky eaters but you also have to be careful not to spoil them to where they will never go back to dry food again. I suggest mixing a dry kibble with something wet such as hamburger and rice or chicken and rice. Also my little guy LOVED the baby (gerbers) beef sticks. They are sold on the baby aisle and remind me of those Vienna Sausages. I used to mash them up and mix really well with small dry kibble. I even fed him a not so high quality of dry kibble just so he would eat it. Now that he is older and has a sister who is a piggy he eats what I put down since she does but it was a real scare when he was a baby - I know how it can be. Just try to find something she likes and will eat and stick with it. Switching them so much makes them even pickier and also is not good for their blood sugar level. Good luck and if you ever need to talk or need help - just send me a PM. I would be more than happy to send you some food samples if you need some.

| Oh and I meant to say as well the Nutrical is key too. I gave my little one a serving in the Am, afternoon and Pm. I used to smear some on his dry kibble to entice him too.
