| Cali was spayed today... ...and the poor thing is so out of it. I dropped her off this morning at 8, and no sooner than I could get settled at work, the clinic was calling me. They asked me if I was sure Cali was 6 months since she was so small I told them I was positive. I almost got mad, but then I figured they were just doing their job. Whatever. But anyways, I picked her up at 5, and she was really excited to see me, but except for the initial burst of happiness, she has been pretty much chilled out ever since. Anyways, now that we are at home, she can't seem to relax. I am not sure if she is in pain or what. She keeps getting up, then going back to lay down. I put her an e-collar on for now until I can figure out something else for her. The little onesies are too big for her. She actually doesn't fit anything. But I am beginning to feel like I should give her something for pain. I still have some medication left from when she broke her leg in December. They didn't give me anything at the clinic, they said she should be fine But what do you think? Is she just all over the place because she is trying to get her bearings, or.......what? I feel bad for her. The poor thing.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Oh poor baby. I know when my Cali was spayed she stayed for 1 1/2 days after surgery (also had other surgery) and when I picked her up they told me they had given her a pain shot that should last 24 hours. Cali was still pretty uncomfortable. I bet by tomorrow this time she will feel a lot better. Isn't it a relief to have it over?

| Yes I am glad its over. It's pretty sad though. She is so tired but for some reason she doesn't want to lay down. She is actually sleep standing up! That is why I thought maybe she was sore.

| Oh, poor little thing My vet sent Kalani home with pain meds when he was neutered and I gave them for the first 2 days but didn't think he needed more after that. Is she bothering her sutures? If not, I'd leave the e-collar off and let her get as comfortable as she can, Kalani spent most of the first 24 hours in my lap

| Do you think the collar may bother her?? Did you get the premie sized onsies?? I think sometimes the pain meds agitate them for a while and then she may settle down. Bella was fine by the next day. I hope she has a good night and feels better soon

| Sadie was spayed last Monday and they sent her home with pain pills. I gave her one that evening and two the next day. After that she was fine - just a little groggy first couple of days. Now you'd never know she had anything done. Your baby should be feeling a lot better by tomorrow. They bounce back really quickly. Good Luck!!

| Poor baby....I sure do hope she isn't in too much pain....all I can offer is just give her extra tender loving care....I know I talked to my vet about spaying my baby and he said that we should play it by ear...he normally spays between 7 mths to a year depending on their size....so I have this to look forward to....sending prayers your way for a speedy recovery for your lil furbaby.

| I'm glad she's feeling better this morning! I'd keep that collar on her for awhile, the last thing you want is chewed stitches! An idea for the onesies: Wash them in hot water and dry them on high heat, then try them on her again. Emma's onesies fit loosely at first, and then I had to wash them a few times-they fit a lot better after a couple washings. I was also going to tell you that if your baby all of the sudden has a few accidents in the next 7-10 days, that's normal. Lots of people (including myself) have questioned why their little furgirl is fairly well potty trained, and then reverts after getting spayed. I'm not sure WHY this is, but I've heard of this a lot. My personal theories on this are that since all the muscles get moved around in surgery, they don't know they need to go until they HAVE to go, and since the muscles hurt, they avoid going until the last possible second, so they go wherever they happen to be. I kept Emma on a thick blanket with her food, water, and a pee pad right next to her, and that helped while she wasn't feeling well. She had a couple accidents in the week following the spay, and then was back to being reliable.

Yeah, yesterday she wasn't. Today, she's much better. I don't know if she has a tolerance for the pain or what, but she was like that with the broken leg. The next day, there was no need for the medication.

| Teddi got fixed last month and they didn't give her any pain meds but she was crying all the way home so I called and they told me to come back and they would give her something for pain. They gave these teeny tiny pills. They were cut in 1/4 and then they put them in a little clear capsul. They gave her one at the hospital and then sent me home with a bunch. She was really groggy after that and slept all nite and woke up all happy like nothing the next day. I never gave her any more of them. They also made a little t-shirt for her from some stretchy bandage material that she wore for a few days because they said they didn't have a collar small enough. She never even seemed to notice the stitches! |
