| Neutering Experiences OK...so Banks is 21 weeks old and has been doing really well (although at the end of his puppy class this week he started barking and lunging at all the other puppies...which is just weird because he's usually afraid...but that's for another post ) and I've read on here that people have had both good and bad experiences with getting their dogs' neutered. I'd like to know your experiences pros, cons and any advice you might have... thanks! |

| My Maltese, Jack, was 6 mos when he was neutered. He came home and wimpered for 3 days. Stood with his chin on a wadded up quilt and his rear end up in the air and slept like that. Wanted to be held. Rocky came home, jumped to the back of the couch. The next day I caught him trying to mate with Sunnie who just started in heat. It didn't seem to matter that he had stitches and bruising all around his pisser. That was 2 wks ago. He's fine now. Still trying to make Sunnie happy.....not happening.

| Chachi was neutered at 7 months. He did just fine with the neutering we had more trouble keeping him calm and quiet after the surgery. You might want to ask your vet about his pulling any retained teeth while he is under. I also had Chachi microchiipped at that time. You might want to ask for pain meds. Some vets give them but some you have to ask for them. They cant be bathed for 10 days and they can only go outside to go potty. You want to keep him from jumping and I didnt let Chachi climb any stairs. Oh and I about forgot before the neuter you want to get bloodwork done on him so they can check and make sure he doesnt have any underlining condition that putting him under anesthia could possibly risk his life. Good luck and try not to worry we have all been there and our dogs came through it just fine

| Both of my boyz are neutered and we didn't have any problems. I used the puppy playpen to keep them calm for a day or so and then they were fine. Here's a picture of Jo after his 'ordeal'...that's his buddy Ellie with him. |
