| Riddick is losing his hair (balding) Hello.. I have been noticing that my yorkie is balding in spots.. I feed him Purina One. He also looks really thin.. He weighs 8 lbs. I always leave the food out for him so that he can eat at anytime.. He looks healthy and is very playful.. What would you suggest to get his hair to stop balding.. concerned, Riddicks Mommy |

| What's missing Link??... The shampoo and conditioner that I use is.. Smart Groom by WAHL. The Shampoo is Colour Enhancing Shampoo, and Detangling Conditioner.. I do believe that it probably has to do more with something lacking in his diet.. |

| Even if she did use human shampoo on him I don't think would have done it. I use my shampoo on Diesel all the time. He has a very thick coat. I wonder if maybe he is allergic to something. Maybe switching his food might help. I give Diesel Natural Balance (lamb) soft food in the am. I think he is too skinny too. I figure anything to get some meat on his bones.

| He could also be losing hair because he has mites (mange). Your Vet can check for it by doing a skin scrape

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pom has been losing her hair., drinking a lot of water and had skin problems and lost weight. She was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on 2 pills a day. The vet said they usually gain weight but all her other symptoms made him suspecta thyroid problem. Maybe you can have them run blood work on him.

| My yorkipoo had hair loss when I got him and continued to get worse. I've spent so much money on vet bills and tests it's crazy. He was treated for allergies, given nutritional suppliments, and was treated for mange. Mange is very hard to diagnose (mites are very hard to find even with skin scrapings. My dog has had 5 painful scrapings and no mites were seen) so they usually just treat for it and hope it works. My baby got four rounds of Ivermectin shots, was on antibiotics twice, and still on a nutritional suppliment. I've switched his food to Science Diet by a few different vet recommendations. And he gets bathed once a week with a mild fatty acid perscription shampoo. His hair is starting to grow (finally!), but it is also thinning again in other areas. I don't know which treatment was actually the one that started working (maybe all of them), but what a pain in the butt it has been. I can't wait for his hair to finally come in like it's supposed to. He is almost 5 months old and I've never seen him the way he is really supposed to look, lol. Good luck on this. I don't wish that problem on anybody. |
