Breathing Problems?!?!?! - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Mocha is only 8 months old and since I've had her she has had these short episodes like she is trying to catch her breath, making coughing/ choking sounds and deeply breathing... it reminds me of an asthma attack in a way, and it only lasts a few seconds, it's happened rarely and she has never been exited or playing at the time of the occurrence... my Vet said small dogs have these problems because of their small organs and its "normal"... last night she had an attack that lasted well over a minute... I'm worried this is could be more than a "normal" thing... Has anyone experienced this type of thing?!?!?

she might have kennel cough, my little snickers was having the same exact problem when i took him to the vet they told me had a sinus infection, maybe you should try and take him to a different vet and get a second opinion, because that doesnt sound right to me...he might even have allergies.

The next time it starts place your finger across her nostrils, forcing her to breathe through her mouth, for a few seconds. If that stops it every time, your vet is right, it's not a problem. Seems to be genetic in our case, Crystal's sire does it incessantly when we're at the breeder's house.

LiL Moe started out with similar episodes, that I too thought reminded me of our small dog that had asthma...the vet has now confirmed to us he has collapsed trachea, but not the highly serious stage, it would probably be best to get your baby to the vet and have them check it out.....and if possible try to duplicate the sounds your doggy makes .Good Luck!

It could be reverse sneezing as well. Katy had something like that this past summer. It scared the ..... out of me. Dr. prescribed children's Benadryl

my dogs do that after drinking water to fast. When they drink to fast it goes up their nose I think. But it stops after a few seconds. My vet told me it was normal.
