| Swallowing food Penny is on prescription food W/d because of her numerous bouts of colitis in the past. She has only has one episode since being on this food, and it was a gas episode and not the bleeding. Problem is, she adores this food so much that she swallows it whole... and these are not little pieces. We always knew she woofed it all down quickly but didn't realize she was just swallowing and not chewing until recently. I've also just put 2 and 2 together. Our vet used to marvel at how clean her teeth where (back when we didn't brush). In her last two visits, they've made comments about some tartar buildup. I do brush her teeth now, but I think a big cause for the buildup is because she doesn't chew her food! What can we do? Not only am I concerned about the tartar, but I'm also afraid she will choke someday. A few times recently she has done her weezing/throat thing after eating which makes me think she could choke. By the way, she's almost 3 years old. We got her at 5 mos, and she's been on the W/d for a year and a few months. |
