| wet look hair Hello, I am new here and i have a question for all of you who already have experience with this breed. I am interested in buying a Yorkie puppy and found one in a store. The shop assistant told me that even after bathing the puppy, she still has a wet look (greasy) hair, which i noticed myself. Is that normal ? Could it be because of the shampoo used ? Or will that be gone with age ? (the puppy is about 5 months old) Obviously i would not want to buy a puppy with some hair problems, so, shall i just look for another one ? Thanks ! |

| you dont want to buy a puppy from a pet store. i know they are cute and hard to resist but they come from puppymills and the puppies often have health problems. not only that you dont want to be contributing to keeping puppy mills in business. Find a local breeder and get a puppy from them

| Please keep in mind that that puppy probably came from a puppy mill and if you buy it you are supporting them. You could ask where they got the puppy & tell them that you cannot purchase it unless you are allowed to see the parents and their living conditions. I personally have decided that I will not purchase anything from a store that sells pets. Unless proven otherwise, I would feel like I was contributing to the maltreatment of pets. I have been told that reputable breeders will not sell their puppies through a pet store. |

| Don't buy from a petstore - find a reputable breeder close to you where you can see the sire and dam of the puppy, the conditions they are raised in etc. A pet store most often doesn't offer any kind of health gaurantee either whereas most breeders will offer a gaurantee of 1 or 2 years. I think even if you go visit a breeder, you'll find a big difference in the appearance of a pet store yorkie and the yorkies of a responsible breeder. I know the yorkies at my petsmart are nowhere near as nice looking as the ones I've seen at breeders.

| Thanks everybody for the quick replies. Everyone seems to be quite unanimous about one thing ... which is not buying the puppy from the store... We're living in Florida, Stuart . Is there anyone in the area who has puppies for sale ? Thanks again. |

| With her puppy coat it seemed like she always looked like she needed a bath. After trimming that off and letting her 'adult' hair come in, she's much less greasy and looks good for a long time. Puppy coats can be totally different from their grown up hair.
