| Welcome to this forum and congrats on ur 2 babies, im guessing their names are Hayley and Ethan, love the names.... Its hard when they dont eat and we worry, have u contacted the breeder about this to ask what she was eating and how big of a eater she was when she was with her? Are they brother and sister? There are threads on this forum about finicky eaters and what those ppl give them, i read somewhere that those meat rolls u buy at petstores do the trick for some. Is she drinking ok? A friend of mine got some high calorie food from her vet and forcefed her yorkie for a few days until she started eating by herself. My baby eats like a horse so i cant really give u a lot of ideas to this one, but my first yorkie was a finicky eater and i had to play with her and her food to make her eat, im sure other ppl on this board will be able to help u futher with this. Good luck and plz post us some pics of ur little ones

Have you tried handfeeding her...coaxing her that way? Just offer her a little food from your hand and keep doing it even if she acts disinterested. Seems like once they finally eat a little, they decide they want more! That would usually work for me when my yorkie was young. Welcome to Yorkie Talk and I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your cuties!

congrats on your new babies, & welcome. Have you try sitting with her while she eats, my nemo won't eat unless am by his side, it does get boring sometimes, but as long as he eats am happy & am hoping someday he will grow out of it. NOw regarding your baby girl,If I were you I will force feed her until you contact the breeder to double check what were her eating habits. I would try to give her the kyro syrup or nutra call every few hours until she starts eating , just so her sugar dosen't drop. My breeder also recomended forcing pedialite, just so they don't dehidrate. I'm sorry am not much help. I hope you can get her to start eating on her own, sometimes a new home gets them nervous and they don't want to eat unti ,they get adjusted to the new place. keep us posted & can't wait for picture. good luck

keep a real good eye on her, I had the same problem with mine. I had to force feed and then back to the breeder twice. I read all the above advise and its pretty much what I did, but the best was liversausage mixed with chicken, it finally did the trick, boiled chicken,no fat. almost all protein. So good luck with her. let us know how it goes.

| Hi, welcome and congrats on your new two little babies. I got Louie about 3 weeks ago and went through the same thing so I know how worried you must be. Mine is a finicky eater as well and what has worked for me is giving him boiled chicken (no salt or seasons) with a little broth (from the boiled chicken, not from a can as that has too much salt and preservatives), Louie likes it very brothy which is good so he maintains hydrated when I don't see him drink a lot of water. Have you tried that yet? I put my chicken in the food processor with some of his puppy food and I grind it up to tiny pieces so it's easy for him to eat. Hopefully that will work for you. Also, don't forget to give them their nutrical with their food (it's a vitamin supplement). Good luck and let us know how it works out for you!

Still not eating Thank you all for all your replies... She's still not eating. I handfed her, she vomited within 10 mins.... The vet just called me to let me know that both Haley & Ethan both have a pancreas and liver problems and need to be on antibiotics. So I'm guessing that's why she vomiting. I hope that's it and it can be cured...... I have tried giving her chicken no fat, wet and dry food with and without karo syrup and or nutrical. Handfed her babyfood chicken still vomits... I know I've only had her for 3 days but she's a part of my family and I will do whatever it takes to get her better....... The breeder still hasn't called after I emailed her... Any help will be appreciated.. FYI I will do anything it takes to make them feel better.... Last edited by haleyðan; 04-11-2005 at 10:25 AM.

How to make a little one eat What I would recommend trying: 1. Get Nuta-Cal from Petco, or where ever, squeeze the size of the tip of your small finger onto a finger. Open the mouth, and put it into it. 2. Get the highest fat ground beef at store, cook it with the puppy smelling the cooking, don't overcook. 3. Put the puppy on the floor, give a piece of the meat Next you will have a puppy begging for food- probably more ground beef. The nutra cal will stimulate the appetite. The meat, beef in particular will make the puppy drool with hunger. I have a new little girl, I did this, and it worked like a charm. I don't know a lot about Yorkies, but have been doing dogs my whole life, and am a biologist. I hope your vet is wrong =-)

Cold? Glad to hear that Haley is starting to eat. Why do you think that they may have caught a cold? Are they coughing, mucus from the nose? If they are, get them to the vet, it could be kennel cough. Also, if they are very small, please make sure that you use a heating pad for them. They are used to the warmth of their mother and can get pneumonia very easily, the smaller they are, the more they need to be kept warm. I am wondering what "liver and pancreas" problems the vet has found. If you don't know alot about yorkies, yorkies have a genetic problem with liver shunt and you should ask your vet exactly what is the problem. Please keep your breeder in the loop and take a good hard look at your contract. Hope that your babies feel better soon.

problems feeding Hi there, and congratulations on your new babies! I've had my little Kiwi for about a week now and at first I was having quite a bit of trouble feeding her. It turned out that she was ill with Cocsidia and as a result had no appetite. The solution to this was initially a dab of honey on my finger, this would get her appetite going and then she would be willing to eat her dry kibble. She is almost finished her round of antibiaotics and her willingness to eat is increasing. Another thing i found helpful is apple. If you remove the skin and give her tiny pieces, she may be willing to start eating and perhaps even eat her dog food. Either way, I hope both Haley and Ethan will be doing better soon.

finicky eater My vet uses Gerber baby food i.e. chicken or beef for finicky eaters. She has cases and cases of this stuff in her clinic. My little Neena had the same problem and she suggested for me to try it. I also give Neena NutriCal and it is helping to get her appetite going. 95 % of the time she licks it right of my finger and the rest of the time I have to stick my finger into her mouth and she'll take it from there. I also use a small syringe for water. Neena doesn't like to drink water and will go without water for several hours. She used to be constipated too. When she doesn't drink enough during the day, I will use the syringe 2 or 3 times a day. Ever since, she has a much easier time with her digestion and goes at the same time (7 a.m.) every day. It works great. Her bathroom habits used to be so unpredictable. It's much much better now. Hope this helps.
