| Having her first season, need some advice please!!! HIya all Treacle has started her first season (would you believe so did I, but not my first, obviously)!!! Anyway, I came home from work, was on an early shift, to be told there was few drops of blood on my bed, was it me!!!! Anyway, on taking a look treacle is very very swollen with blood visible!! So.......... I thought I would try the pads(holder thingy) but she seems to hate it!! Won't walk around when its on, just stands still or lays down. Its not too tight, we have all checked that!!. Anyway, I have taken it off and she laying on my bed on a towel. She seems really low in mood and occassionally wimpering?? Can anyone tell me firstly, do they have any pain like us women do?? Secondly, any hints for protecting furniture etc, if i can't get her used to the pads. Thirdly, how long does she bleed heavily/noticeably for, is it the whole 3 weeks!!! And lastly, do they get some sort of pmt?? She seems really low in mood and she is always so so so lively and loving? or could this be pain???? Im really sorry if these seem really silly questions, but I havent had a dog since I was a kid and to be honest I can't remember anything other than her bleeding!!! Thanks all, Treacles very sad and worried mummy!! |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Yes, they can get very moody in their "time of year". That's perfectly normal. Heats normally last for 3 weeks...21 days. If she will not tolerate the diaper...which I'm thinking she'll get use to it...you should crate her or put her in an x-pen to save you lots of laundry and your furniture. They are normally good about keeping themselves clean but since it is her first heat, her instincts may not have "clicked" in.

| The YTCA store sells some beautiful satin panties for that "time" and they are VERY reasonably priced at I think 10 dollars!! We too overshot the spay a little and went thru this with Mignon, I will also tell you that she had a false pregnancy after, that is quite common with them so don't panic. Unfortunatly it put off her spay for that much longer as my vet would not spay her during that time. She didnt like her panties at first but she learned to get used to them in a very short time. Good luck! |

| Thanks for your comments. I hate seeing her so miserable. She has been a bit livelier today, although as soon as I try the panties she starts to cry so have decided to cover the furniture instead and see how that goes!!! Treacles Mummy |
