HELP!! Going for shots today

I'm taking Mia for her shots today at a mobil vet. She is 1 yr. and 3 months old and 8 1/2 lbs and had all her shots when she was a puppy. She needs 3 yr. Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus plus Canine Influenza, Bordetella and Heartworm test. MY QUESTION is, is it safe to get all this done in one visit or should I split it up over 2. The reason I'm going to the mobil vet is $140.00 compared to $250.00 at her regular Vet.

Hi. I'm new to YorkieTalk. I just started my own investigation on vaccines for dogs. I know there's major issues with the increasing number of vaccines for humans and assumed with dogs as well. Boy was I right. My best advice is to reschedule your appointment and study up before getting any vaccines. This could save you even more money than the mobile vet. Google what Dr. Ronald Schultz has to say about dog vaccines. There's lots of posts here about vaccines as well. I'm a vaccine minimalist for many reasons. If I were you, I'd get the Dist/Parv shot today ONLY (though fyi, influenza may be thrown in w/ Dist/Parv shot). And have the blood drawn for Heartworm test.

Then in 2-3 weeks, get the rabies. I do not get Bordetella ever.

My boy is 6 yo, last year I did the rabies first, 2 weeks later we did the distemper, 2 weeks later we did the lime. Yes it cost me more in vet visits, but I had piece of mind. Some years back one of my girls had a bad reaction to multiple shots, they had to reverse the shot, I had to leave her there for 4 hours. Bordetella is not a core vaccine in my county, my boy does not go to doggie day care, dog parks nor does he get boarded out, and my groomer does not require it, so I do not do the Bordetella.

We did not get the influenza shot for Bella. The vet told us that it was mainly for dogs in urban environments who might be exposed to a lot of other dogs. We live in a small city, and Bella is hardly ever exposed to other dogs.

Only one shot at a time. You should have a full blood panel done by a vet yearly to not only check for heart worm but tick illnesses and make sure the blood count is good and everything. You also should go to the vet for a yearly exam. These things are very important.

The first year boosters are extremely important.

Thanks for the reply's I'm doing 3 visits since there is no office charge. I was really concerned about getting all those shots at once.

She needs to have a yearly exams before shots to make sure she is healthy.

Before you start her on heart-worm medication she will need blood test done, you will need to go to your vet for this. Even if the pup has been on heart-worm preventive all year a blood test must be done before restarting the next 12 month prevention med.

A yearly physical is also something that should be done. My now passed girl was diagnosed with Pancreatitis on a yearly physical, so it's important every year they are taken for yearly physical.
