| Bella's hair is still thinning Hi. I noticed 6 months ago or so that Bella's hair around her nose is thinning Out, and I also noticed that she liked to scratch herself on the carpet occasionally, so I started monitoring that and got her to stop doing that. (She doesn't have any medical issues, it was just a habit) but her hair is still thin. I dont know why it's happening and I am very worried that she might get bold! Anyone here experienced a similar issue who can share? PS- she doesn't have allergies, her eyes are very clean, I brush her teeth on a regular basis. I am using baby shampoo when I bath her which I always did and didn't have issues. Maybe it's the shampoo? Thanks! Last edited by guliverandmaya; 03-01-2016 at 12:00 PM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Why are you stopping her from itching herself...? If she needs to itch, I'd let her do it - it's the only way that 1) she can get relief and 2) you can actually see how bad this really is. How do you know she doesn't have allergies? Bc her eyes are 'clean'? The eyes may have no effects whatsoever during allergies. I'd be thinking enviro allergies as they're so incredibly common in yorkies.

If she has dry skin, you can try giving her very small amounts of unprocessed, organic coconut oil. It works wonders for the skin (for dogs and humans). I'm not sure about using baby shampoo for dogs. It seems some people who have had dogs for years have always used people shampoo for their dogs, without issues. I personally stick to the dog products for dogs.

| Has her food changed? I use doggie shampoo and conditioner that my groomer uses. Are you bathing her too often? Maybe you need a humidifier in the house. The coconut oil is wonderful, I agree. Good luck.

| Thanks so much for your great ideas! I bought coconut oil however it's a white pasty thing. Do I just mix it with their food or do I need to heat it? I gave them a little bit of that and both liked it which is awesome. Thanks again, I love this wonderful forum! |

| Please let me know if the coconut oil helps. Blossom always had thin hair but since she was spayed her coat is worse, not sure there is a connection. |

| You can make treats with the oil mix it with their food or just give it to them in a spoon they love it! It has tons of health benefits for his humans and dogs. I also like to rub some on their pads for moisture works great!
