| HELP! Can yorkies eat nopales? My mom was chopping some veggies, one of those being nopales (cactus) and she dropped a little piece on the floor by accident, and being the fastest dog in town, Kenzie ate it. My question is: What shall I do? Just called her doctor and he said that it'd cause vomit or diahrrea, but we're still worried

| I read on Google that the prickly pear version is toxic to dogs. Maybe you'd better call the Home Again Dog Poison line or one of the poison lines in our Library. Call 1-888-HOMEAGAIN. There is a $60.00 fee. Below is supposedly a free poison hotline for dogs: Poison Control Hotlines to Contact if You Suspect Pet Poisoning | One Green Planet

| I am sorry, my eyes keeps seeing, "Can dogs eat nipples" everytime I look over this post! My momma of 10 week old pups will tell you, YES, damn straight they can!!!! As far as the REAL title of the post, I have no idea if they can eat cactus! I am thinking if these are those big paddle looking things, minus the thorns, that people fry up and eat.....I was going to say yes, but that is a wild eyed assumption and I dont want anyone to go by that information and start feeding it to their pups!!!! So, I will refrain from giving an answer until I can verify! |

That's the kind of cactus she tasted today, and she seemed to enjoy it very much. She's okay and being her playful tiny self, so hope it was just us overreacting.

| I could only find a little information on dogs and nopales here: http://www.herbalsafety.utep.edu/herbs-pdfs/nopal.pdf It sounds like in massive quantities, nopales can reduce blood sugar, leading to hypoglycemia, but I doubt that a few small pieces would have any effect. Since she's fine this morning, she's probably out of danger, but I'd have some nutrical or karo syrup on hand for just in case. |
