Update and Review of Natures Logic

I have another thread, asking about Natures Logic kibble and wanting to know if anyone had used it. Because Royal Canin did a change of formula and started using less overall protein and what I believe to be inferior ingredients, I decided to look for a new food. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ry-kibble.html.

This is a review of Nature's Logic after using it for 4 months. I don't want to say it's a miracle food, but I'm extremely happy with it and the boys are doing really well on it. First, let me say, Ralphie, our rescue, had quite a few digestive issues including IBS when we got him, he has special medicine and while he did pretty good for the last year on Royal Canin, I still had to use his medicine, perhaps once a month. On Nature's Logic, he has not needed it for the entire 4 months, not even one time. It was really obvious when Ralphie was sick; he'd pace, and want to sit on my lap, but then he’d want to get down right away and back and forth until his medicine kicked in. So I'm really happy with this and it tells me, it's easy for him to digest. Another issue I had with Ralphie is that he needed to get up twice during the night to eat. Although I feed him at 9 PM, he still needed to get up at 1 and 4, for a few bits of food. Ralphie would pretty much cry until I gave it to him. The vet thought maybe it was due to acid reflux or hypoglycemia, and didn't mind me giving him food at night, but it's been difficult. I haven't been able to sleep thought the night for years. Anyway, this stopped; he no longer needs to eat during the night! I think because this has a higher protein content, it takes longer to digest and keeps him satisfied longer. So you see why I think it's a miracle food, I can finally sleep all night!

Regarding Joey, he's never had any digestive issues, but weight has been a problem since a trick training class at 11 months. The vet said he was more than a full pound over his desired weight and even after dieting and exercising we could never keep it at the weight the vet thought was best, it was always slightly above that. Honestly, his weight dropped down to his desired weight within a few weeks and I've been able to up his food, actually give him more calories, and still keep it at 5.5 pounds, without any struggle at all, he loves having more food and I love knowing he's at a healthy weight, because it’s so much easier on his joints. The food hasn't made a difference in Ralphie's weight, he’s exactly the same, but I think Joey's just one of those dogs that doesn't do that well on a high carb diet and he needs more protein. They no longer think calories are equal when it comes to weight control. So the higher protein diet has worked well for both of them.

Someone suggested that this food would make the dogs ugly, so I'm enclosing some updated shots of their beautiful physiques. Remember, Joey is 8 and Ralphie is 10!

No one suggested that the food would make your dogs ugly but someone commented that another member indicated that THEIR dogs looked "awful" on it. This is why it is so important to remember that dogs are individuals.


I can't believe Joey is 8 already! Time really flies. I hope you have many more years together.

Oh, and I'm glad the food is working out for the two boys.

Your boys are both gorgeous! I home cook for Katie, but since Katie doesn't eat before I leave for work, I leave a small amount of kibble for her in case she gets hungry. If she eats it, I adjust the amount that I give her of her home cooked meal.

I read with great interest your struggle to find a food you'd be happy with. I really like the higher protein amount and the lack of synthetic vitamins in Nature's Logic. I started using Nature's Logic almost two months ago. It is only a small portion of Katie's food intake, so it's difficult to really evaluate it, but she likes it and had no negative reactions to it when she picked this out of her other kibble she wasn't eating much of. We had three Yorkies staying with us for a few days in December, and they had some too with no ill effects to their stomachs, despite the fact that they were eating something new.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It helped me to try something new, which I'm always afraid to do. I'm really happy your boys are doing so well on it.

Yes, it's crazy the anxiety that comes when choosing their foods. I don't think most people are as careful with their own diets or their children's, but when it comes to our Yorkies we go nuts. I'm glad you have had a good experience with it too, my two grand dogs have switched and they're doing good on it as well.

I know, it really is a miracle, I've tried so many times to break Ralphie of this habit. Feeding him much more at the 9:00 feeding, or giving him less and less during the night so he would eliminate a feeding and not think it's worth it to get up. Just so many different things, but nothing worked. He still gets up to go to the bathroom, (so do I), but he comes right back to bed with no crying and begging. They love this time of year!

A lot of terrier breeds age really well, arguably the best of any dog breed. It is one of the traits that makes them my favorite. Then Yorkies have that extra special something.

Joey's breeder still grooms them, she's so good at doing the feet, it's amazing. We've been trying different lengths for Ralphie's leg hair, because he's tangles so easily, I love it one length, but I can't stand hurting him and now grooming is a breeze with the shorter legs. I'm hoping I can go a little longer, but I just love the way she does his feet or paws as you say. Lol, maybe I have a paw fetish too, I love kissing their little paws.

Since Ralphie and Marcel are related - I bet their coats are similar. Marcel too tangles like CRAZY - so easily!! It's frustrating. And I've tried every single coat conditioner etc hoping it would help with this, but it really doesn't. The only way for me to keep his coat long is that I absolutely have to brush him every other day. Sometimes, I might extend that by 1 day...but it usually results in more tangles. I don't like having to brush this often, but don't really have a choice. It's kinda a pain in the butt.

Marcel's hair must be better than Ralphie's, no way I could go a day without brushing. I too have tried millions of conditioners, I don't see any difference. I did find that using a human brush with bristles, didn't ever hurt him and took out some of the tangles before I got to pin brush and comb helped somewhat. Also, it's like Ralphie's hair is a magnet, whenever we go for a walk, his legs would be covered with stuff. He's so cute, he's worth the extra time, but I die every time he yelps.

Your dogs looks good. PPL love there dogs with food. But it is actually not good for them. They are easy to give in to. I keep mine well fed but not to heavy
