Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | With less food intake and increased exercise, some weight loss should happen. If it doesn't, that's when I'd be checking for thyroid issues or Cushings or something else related.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I helped my two boys successfully lose weight. They were receiving too many kibble rewards from their grandpa. The rewards added up to an extra meal a day. I measured out the kibble they are to receive each day and put it in a bowl. All of their meals and rewards came out of the bowl. When the bowl was empty, no more rewards. I would start with assessing the food your dog eats and the proper amount per day. Be sure to take a hard look at treats. Substitute low calorie treats that are filling. Increase exercise if possible.

| Yorkie weight loss Thanks so much for your reply's I have cut down on her intake, and I read somewhere to give Her pure pumpkin, that will fill her up This has been an ongoing problem, and the healthier the food I give her the more she vomits, so I will give it one last try And if It doesn't work, I will have her thyroid checked |

Teddy does well with steamed plain chicken breast. A low fat protein that increases metabolism. I hope you can find what works best for your girl.

| My daughter adopted an eight year old, 12 1/2 lb. yorkie in February- she was overweight and lumpy shaped- she was free fed purina lamb and rice- her hair was dull and broken- I kind of doubted if she was full yorkie. Today she is slim and shiny with plenty of energy. I put her on a fish based grain free food and slowly cut down the amount she was fed to twice a day. She now weighs 10 lbs and eats 1/4 cup kibble twice a day- no treats but an extra 1/8 cup of kibble if she has been more active. I doubt the original owners would recognize her! |
