YT 500 Club Member | Royal Canine Hypoallergenic Has anyone tried Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Hypoallergenic my vet recommended it for my dog since he is itchy. It is very expensive but wondering if it is worth the shot. It has no meat in it at all. I would wonder how filling that could be for them |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Food allergies are quite rare, so are you/the vet sure his allergy is to food? If not, I'm not sure I'd choose to feed this food until I had clarification. Did you try an elimination diet or anything? If it's an enviro allergy, you then usually medicate rather than switch foods....although it can be a good idea to have an allergy dog on a lower carb diet as it can help decrease some of the inflammation. What meds have you tried so far?

| From all the people that I have talked to, heard from, read about, the Royal Canin Prescription Diets are excellent and have produced excellent results for the majority of people I have encountered, including but not limited to, the Hypoallergenic diet. I have not had an issue where I needed to use any of these Rx diets, so I can not speak first hand about results....but there are many on here who have used it with great success! You do not have to be concerned with how filling the diet is, or if pups nutritional needs are being met, RC is scientifically formulated and balanced to make certain pup is getting all that he needs! |

| It will help if your dog has food allergies which is pretty rare and I feel your dog more then likely has environmental allergies. My dog as IBD and that is caused by food allergies so she has been on it a few months but I use the small breed one because she's picky about her food size. She is a normally a very picky eater but has no problems eating this food.

| I used the RC Hydrolized Protien and it's worked well for all of my three. Pebbles has been on it for about 3 1/2 yrs. I'd like to call Pebbles intolerant to certain ingredients. I had tried everything to help her and this was the only thing that helped. We had been feeding RC a Small breed or Yorshire a Terrier for almost 3 years until Bogey had anal gland and ear infection issues. Our vet called it "ears and rears" relating to food. I switched him over to the RX food see if it would help and he hasn't had any problems in almost a year. We finished up the RC Small breed that I was using for Doodlebug and asked the vet if he could eat the RX food for simplicity. Now they all eat the RC RX food and ate all doing really well. Since I was already using RC the RX food really wasn't that much more expensive.
