When Izzy gets excited on walks and pulls towards something a lot of times she makes this weird loud sound like she cant get air when she breathes in. i make her stop and she calms down right away and stops breathing like that immediately. sometimes she goes right back to it if she's still fixated on whatever she's excited about. I repeat the process and it stops immediately. i walk her with a harness, never with a collar. She doesn't do it when she runs. Only when she's straining to get to something or when she' overly excited. I've heard other dogs do it, and the owners usually claimed they have asthma. But that just seems weird to me, since asthma usually requires an inhaler or some thing to get it to subside. No ones ever pulled out an inhaler for their dog yet.

Hmmm....good question. Some dog's throats can become a little irritated with faster / more labored breathing - so I wonder if it's bc of that...? Esp if she has allergies of some kind.

Did the vet take any x-rays of just guess it was CT because of the symptoms. My new puppy does a real fast quick hack sometimes when over excited or just random times. The vet said it was early signs of CT. I have done a lot of research on it and CT is not a death sentence. A lot of dogs live long lives with it. WHen I was concerned and thinking of returning the puppy the vet told me in her 27 years as a vet she never put a dog down due to CT. So I think most dogs due well with it that don't. Also are you sure it is not a reverse sneeze. Look it up on you tube. With CT they usually have a honking cough

Unless you get a special kind of X-ray and it has to be done during the episode then most of the time it will not show up on a regular X-ray.

izzy's aren't quick and over. Once she starts that honking sound it continues until i touch her chest and calm her down. She calms down instantly. I've never allowed it to go on for more than however many seconds it took me to get to her. but she does it when she's excited mostly . it's gotten better since i switched her to the easy walk harness cause that doesn't go anywhere near her throat.
The vet pushed in on a certain spot on her and she made that noise consistently whenever he did that. That's when he said that usually means they have the beginning signs of it. He also said she would most likely be alright as long as I was conscious of it and prevented any further damage for the most part, like not using harnesses with a high strap or cloths that could pull too tight on her neck, etc... She's been doing it considerably less since I switched harnessess so far

I never put mine on a colar. I have as great harness that sits very low on the chest so that works great for him. But he will do it sometimes when he is just playing or chewing his toys. Sometimes a CT stays the same the whole life of the dog so sending prayers that both our little guyes stay at a mild case!!

Because the vet pushed on the trachea and it caused the dog to do it that would mean it's not reverse sneezing.

Yes, in a sense I have two mine and my moms. My dog has a mild case but my moms has a worse case and he is on medicine twice a day. My moms yorkie started having the episodes when he would get excited like when they would come home from being gone for any amount of time. He rarely has an episode now being on the medicine. He has also lost almost 2 pounds. If my yorkies trachea gets touched even a little she honks, we had to find shallow toy boxes because if her trachea would hit it all she would cough, even with a harness if she pulls she will sometimes honk/ cough, certain activities will make her do it as well but it's not super bad and it has stayed the same for like 6 years.

Thanks thats encouraging news. Mine will make himself cough if he scratches his neck real hard. Sometimes he will do a quick fast hack when he is chasing my daughter or after drinking water not a honking just a fast hack. He is 8 months. So I am glad to hear that your dogs has stayed the same. My Spud gets that cough. I have a harness made by puppia. I put that on him but I hook his leash to the strap on the side that goes under his leg. That way I do not pull on his throat in any way. Be very careful not to pull on the throat, it really aggravates this tracheal cough.
