My yorkie had her blood work done before the teeth cleaning. Well teeth were never done because her kidney levels and blood pressure were high. They did an xray which nothing out of the ordinary. He put her on the k/d food, baytrill and azodyl.

My dog was always free fed. I have another yorkie so I just left a bowl of food on the floor.

She use to drink a lot when she wakes up in the morning and use to pee all the time. Now she doesn't drink water in morning. She still drinks but not as often and doesn't pee as often.

She likes the wet food but only eats once a day. I leave a bowl of the dry out but she wants nothing to do with it or the treats.

I noticed her poop in black but then the next poop is normal. Its firm. I also noticed she is shaking a little in her back legs. But she will get in the mood to play with her other sister. She will jump from chair to chair. She begs for food like normal.

I am afraid she is losing a lot of weight. I am afraid. Everything was perfect until she went to get her teeth done.

Should I call the vet to see if I can give her green beans or rice. Something... I don't know what to do.

Definitely call your vet. I have a 14 year old Yorkie that's in kidney failure so I have a little experience. Do you know how high her kidney values are? She may need to be on Sub Q fluids. My boy gets them every other day. If her values are very high, the vet will usually recommend a kidney flush on IV fluids for a few days then you can continue to maintain on Sub Q fluids.

Another thing, kidney issues can make them nauseous so that may be why your girl isn't wanting to eat much. I make a Zantac suspension for Bear with instructions from my vet and give it to him twice daily. They may also suggest Famotidine instead.

It's good that shes on Azodyl. Bear's kidney values have come down quite a bit since starting him on that and the Sub Q fluids. He wouldn't eat the k/d and my vet did some research and said the k/d diet may not be the best thing for him anyway. He's always been a very thin dog and it has gotten much worse since he started having kidney issues. He also has bad arthritis so I put him on Science Diet j/d. It's made for joint issues and it's also lower in protein but not as much as the k/d.

You really need to encourage her to drink as much as possible even if you have to take it to her and remind her to drink. You could even try blending the k/d food with some water and see if she will eat it better that way and she would be getting some water at the same time. If necessary, you could even syringe feed it to her that way. Good luck.

Ask your vet if she can go on the Purina NF as an alternative if she isn't enjoying the K/D.
If you want to home cook, it has to be formulated using a vet nutritionist. I use Dr. Remillard and have for over 5 years for help with my dogs and home cooking. Her website is www.petdiets.com. Her consult fee is $250 and she works w/ your vet by reviewing medical records and making a home made diet and recommendations specific to your dog. She does a great job and has a lot of experience w/ kidney disease. I would not home cook without guidance because you really need to make sure you are not giving too much protein or phosphorous and other factors.

my Sammy is on the science k/d. He is NOT happy..so my Vet told me to call Science and ask their recomendations. They told me to sprinkly tuna water (from a can of tuna..not the tuna just the water). I was told I could give him vanilla cookies.. green beans and carrots as snacks. If you add rice it should be sticky rice. My vet said NOTHING with salt.

I also add a phosperous binder.

This is what I was told... but please check with your vet before you add anything to diet.
