| What questions to ask breeder. I will be meeting with a breeder this weekend to see our potential new baby. Based on your experiences what questions regarding genetic health issues should i inquire about. Which yorkie genetic problems should the parents be cleared of? Any advise on what to look for on yorkies when selecting from the litter? Thanks for your time and info. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Here is a link to health concerns:http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...p-10-list.html Do investigate if this breeder health tests her dogs by checking through the various health registries that are referenced in the article

| Thanks! Thank you for your replies, great information. Verbena: 18.) Can I have copies of the health clearances? Many breeds are prone to certain genetic conditions. The breeder should offer health clearances--documentation from an independent agency, such as the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals or the Canine Eye Registration Foundation--that the parent and grandparent dogs were tested for hereditary problems. This is what I was looking for - which genetic health clearances do breeders usually have for yorkies? Which specific ones should I ask her for? Gemy: Thank you for the links I will be sure to look those up. |

| OOps Too late to edit prior message. I read more carefully the info and found my answer on your replies. Thank you for your replies, great information. This will be very helpful when I go to see her tomorrow. I am considering a parti yorkie. Do they tend to have more health issues than the brown/black ones, or any different issues? This forum is amazing, lots of wonderful information! Thanks everyone. |
