Children's Benadryl for Allergies?

My little Acorn has some pretty bad allergies this time of year, and her vet instructed me to give her 5mL of Children's Benadryl once a day. I've noticed some improvements, but she absolutely hates the medicine. She hides in her crate whenever I get out the bottle :-( it also gets all over her hair and makes her sticky. Anyone else give their dog Children's Benadryl?

Everytime I get the syringe, Kayla would run. Now when I give her Benedryl I let her lick it out of a spoon. She takes it all and it doesn't get all over her hair.

I always gave Dolly hers in the pill form just cut it in half and put in peanut butter she never knew she took it

I give my boys childrens benadryl...and it gets all over their beard. I have another OTC medication that I give them for allergies though and it's in a pill form.

I wonder if I could get mine to lick it out of a spoon?!?

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to check out the pill form. Just half the pill? We will also try the spoon trick. Poor Acorn needs a face wash each time I give it to her in a syringe!

I tried pill form once & it computed to something like 1/5th of a pill-& the pills were small! I'd like to hear more opinions about pills, too.
I've never tried the spoon method.
How large is your dog?

My vet has given me some yellow tablets. No idea what the actual medicine is. But 1/2 a tablet give in one of those soft greenie brand pill things seems to do the trick. He's 6.5lbs, and it manages to help clear up his allergies without making him drowsy.

There's no name on the bottle (vet tech just wrote anti-histamine on the bottle), so I can't say what specific medicine it is.

I give my 2mls of liquid benadryl in some food when they get a bee sting

You can use the pills. Just straight diphenhydromine.. It will be hard to cut them small enough though. The dose is generally 1mg/lb (some vets do a higher dose), It can be given more than once a day. Tak to your vet first.
