| Rice I am curious what yall think. A few months ago they came out saying that rice has arsenic in it. I read a few things saying with babies they should not be having the rice cereal every day because of it but 2 times a week was fine. Well I have noticed lots of dog food contains rice do yall feel comfortable about feeding your dogs rice every day or not so much? I personally am not comfortable with it. Just wanting to see every ones opinions on this.

| FDA Releases Arsenic Test Results - Is Rice Safe for Your Dog? While arsenic content varied significantly from product to product, scientists concluded the levels were “too low in the rice… to cause any immediate or short-term adverse health effects”. I personally avoid grains in dog food, but recently after Turbo's nutriscan test, it shows that he doesn't have intolerance to any grains in particular. So they're currently eating Canine Caviar Lamb & Pearl Millet & are doing fantastic. I need to keep rotating proteins so he doesn't build an intolerance to any one food, so I will consider food(s) w/rice in it, I think it's fine in moderation...to have in rotation. They sure do love the rice & salmon I cook for them as a topper w/their moistened kibble sometimes.

| I agree with Jenny. We also tend to pick grain-free foods but I have no problems feeding those that contain rice. I feed Toki a lot of TikiDog which is pretty low in grains but has a small amount of brown rice in it...it does not concern me at all. I, myself, still eat tons of rice even knowing what I do about the arsenic. I spend a lot of time looking into the food that I feed my pups...there are so many other ingredients that I try to focus on avoiding and other factors that I'm more concerned about (I'm not saying that arsenic in rice is not a legitimate concern but it is just not on MY radar personally, since I don't feed too many foods that contain grains, let alone rice but I wouldn't have a problem regularly rotating a food that contained it). It is something to think about... I'd definitely be interested in seeing more definitive research done and long term studies on the effects. |

| Being from the South, I have eaten rice every day of my life from the time I was able to even enjoy table food! My grandmother, my mother, and right on down to me....we ALWAYS have a pot of cooked rice on the stove. If the arsenic in rice was at a toxic level, I would be dead for sure by now. I feed my dogs rice when they have upset tummies and need a bland diet....after surgeries, etc, they get rice and sometimes I add a little goats milk to it. I had a dental done on one of my little senior ladies (retired breeder) who had a lot of her teeth pulled....I fed her rice and goats milk, and even toast and goats milk.....I even added a little Just Born to the rice as well as the toast....thought that would be extra nutritional support for her during her recovery until she is ready to eat a more solid diet. Unless your dog has an allergy to rice, or your child has an allergy to rice, I sincerely do not think you will poison your dog/baby by feeding the rice/rice cereal. Just like apple juice....no poisoning from that either. I have not had my mercury levels checked lately, but I eat LOTS of tuna fish...."white albacore chinks"....have done it for better part of 50 years....healthy as a horse. I think you can run yourself slap dab mad, worrying about everything they come up with....most of which is based on projected feeding of TONS of the questionable product, to mice, over 150 years.....I go along with no trans fats, and I eat skinless chicken....I use canola oil and olive oil, and I bake or broil just about everything...seldom do I fry anything anymore, and when I do, it is in a non stick pan....ooops! THOSE cause cancer....oh well.........we dont eat fast food but MAYBE once a month....and I have cut our red meat intake to three times a month....but I will NOT obscess over every single thing these food warriors come up with, especially if I have been eating the "offending foodstuff" my entire life with no ill effects! Shame on me, but I have much more important things to obcess over! |

| I do not eat grains, including rice, but not because of the arsenic allegation. My dog Barney eats rice, corn, pasta. He has eaten rice for all 13 years of his life. He started the first 10 years on brown rice and now we alternate between the above grains for variety and use white rice. He's been a pretty healthy little man and doesn't look his age in the slightest. I'm not worried about rice.

| Did you hear the newest??? Apparently the FDA admitted that arsenic is in our chicken too! FDA finally admits conventional chicken contains toxic arsenic It's just one of those things... they'll find something in everything, and I am sure a lot of it really is bad for us, but it's not something I am going to fret over.
