Posting on behalf of my mother in law, she has a 1.5 year old female yorkshire terrier. Missy has been paying lots of attention to her lady parts, constantly licking and rubbing them. She does this very regularly through the day and does sometimes squeal as if she is in pain although she squeals very rarely. She is due in season in november so im not sure if this contributes to her behavior. do you think its a trip to the vets or is this normal behavior.

Has she been urinating a lot? It could be a UTI.

I haven't noticed her urinating more. We have a large cat flap on the back door as she likes to be outside so we havent been able to notice, ill keep a check on her tomorrow and if so i think i'll take her the vets to be on the safe side

I would definitely recommend taking her to the vet. UTIs are pretty painful... and if it's something else, they'll be able to help you out.

that's what Jess did and it was a uti. Keep her from licking.and call the vet.
I tell Jess when she sometimes goes in that direction "uh uh no lady parts" and she understands!

I have a friend and his male dog is doing the same thing. He has literally licked his "area" raw to the point where he had to apply cream and put a belly band on to stop him from licking.

This could be allergy related. My pups did the same thing. There are numerous reactions to allergies and itching, licking, chewing are just a few.

OP sound like the pup need to be seen by the vet to rule out an UTI !
