Very thin fuzzy hair

I posted a question not long after I got my baby. His hair seems fuzzier now even and very thin. In seeing other yorkies his age and his hair seems unusually thin and more like fuzz on his back. Of course I understand all yorkies can very different. I'm interested in advice on the best dry food to feed him, as I have read that this could be a factor.I want to find a food that is healthiest overall for him and I'm interested in knowing what everyone feels is the best bathing and drying schedule for a 17 week old puppy. I have done a lot of reading and can't believe the difference of opinions on everything: diet, hair types ( what is normal and not ) and even bathing and drying routines.I have found this site to be very helpful so I thought I would post here. I have only trimmed the hair around his eyes as it was growing slightly in front of his eyes but wonder now if maybe I should not have trimmed it so young. He is a sweetheart of a dog and I just want opinions on these subjects. He is completely up to date on all his shots and will be going back again this coming week. Hi...I'm a pet herbalist...(and people_..to grow hair we need to nourish blood. In the case of dogs, adding blood enriched foods, i.e. organ meats...liver, kidney or heart will help to supplement and nourish the iinternal organs that generate and store blood. Also cosider herbal remedies that help with coat and fur. However, always try improving the food choices. Processed food are lacking in enzymes. And I can go on and on..but start on the inside...not the external.

Welcome to YT(a little late). You might want to ask the vet about testing him for/possible opinon of alopecia. It is a genetic defect that affects hair color and/or causes bald areas. I know that blueborns frequently have alopecia, but looking at your avatar, his coloring and appearance seems fairly standard from what I can tell. More pics would be helpful. Trimming the hair will not change the growth patterns, so I wouldn't worry about that.
Bathing and drying-I bathe Huey weekly and always dry him completely every time. I use a dog specific shampoo (haven't ever heard of anyone else who uses it-Therapet fresh scent-but it smells really good) and I use human Pantene conditioner, I have a dog specific blow dryer that doesn't get too hot and I try to get him at least halfway dry before I start trying to brush out the tangles. Hope you get an answer & would like to see some pics!

These are not the clearest pics but gives you an idea.The pick of his back makes it look like he has a bald spot but he doesnt...its just how his hair lays sometimes because it is so thin.Thanks for your help!

So you have trimmed his face but not his body, The hair on his back does seem awful thin. I would definitely have a vet check him out for any skin conditions like demodex. He's awful cute no matter what!

My Abby had terrible hair as a puppy. I chose her because she was so sweet not for her looks.I think as one of the smallest of five puppies she might have been kicked out of the food bowl often. She ate like she had been starved and I switched her to the best food but it was many months before the frizzy broken hair grew out (I kept her short, trimming every week) Now at two she is still sweet but also cute and has long,silky, fine hair- never a knot or tangle.

It looks like you're lucky and have a silky haired pup!

ZoE's hair looked thin & scraggily as a puppy. She never had that thick fluffy hair look that some yorkie puppies have. But as an adult she has a silky coat. It's very easy to care for and there's rarely a tangle or mat.

Thanks so much ! I was getting worried that my pup was the only one with thin fur and much more so wanted to be sure it was not something I was doing wrong with him. if anyone has pics of their babies when they were little and then when they were a little older I think it would be interesting to see. I have switched him to a much healthier food now~ not just for his coat but just to insure he is getting the best food for good health as well. Thanks again everyone. My Ricky's hair looks a lot like your dogs hair. He is approx 2 years old and he has a horrible coat compared to my other guy. It's very thin, fine and it tangles super easy and it is very high maintenance. When I got him, he was very undernourished so that may have effected it's growth. I've thought about trimming it off, but he's such a little guy and he gets cold already and it seems no matter how short I trim him, it will tangle...unless he is literally shaved. I may shave him next spring if it doesn't get better.

He has been on good food every since I got him and it hasn't improved. He also gets pet tabs. I am thinking about getting some omega 3 supplements to add to his food in addition to what he's already getting.

Hey! I know this thread is old but i have been worried about my pup since she has very similar hair but does not look "balding", very thin and her hair doesn't look like the puppy pictures i've seen online

She is 4 months old here is a pic of her! This is my first yorkie and i've had her for a week. I'm taking her to the vet today just to make sure she is healthy. I got her from a family that had to give her away due to their financial situation.

I read some of the replies here, but I wondered how her pup's hair turned out and if it might have been a health issue??

Any advice appreciated! thank youu
