Skin allergies of the snout only

Hi all, my 8 year old rescue Yorkie Pippy has ongoing issues with skin allergies to her snout only. The skin is red and inflamed and she itches this frequently and often even rubs her snout on the edge of the furniture. She also has lost the black pigmentation around her snout and nose and often gets a yeast infection on the top of her snout. Has anyone else had this problem with their Yorkies or heard of this? I have tried taking her to a skin specialist and they put her on antibiotics which clears the infection but the underlying problem is still there.

It's odd for allergy symptoms on the skin to be localized unless it's a 'touch allergy'. Has she ever had mites? When you say you saw a skin specialist, do you mean a Vet Dermatologist? I'd return to the Vet Derm bc something is not right here.

Have you tried switching food, treats, and shampoo?

Recurrent skin issues can be an indication of Cushings or hypothyroid...does she have any add'l symptoms that would go with that?

yes we have tried food trials and vet dermatologist tried a skin scraping for mites but couldn't see anything so now she is booked in to take an actual biopsy of the area.
Have tried shampoos also but they only make her vomit
I thought someone may have had this problem with their Yorkie.
Geez I hope it's not cushings!! She is going to the vet tomorrow with a suspected luxating patella

I agree, it is odd to be so localized. It almost makes me wonder if it's not more of an anxiety type issue that's causing the scratching and resulting in secondary infections.

She's not an anxious dog unless strangers are over which isn't very often and then she usually barks at them and then keeps her distance for awhile. She usually scratches her snout when she's in playful mood like rubbing it on the couch etc.

Such an interesting case / doggie here, it'll be very interesting to see what happens with that biopsy. Made me remember that sometimes, mites will later burrow under the skin - so that a skin scraping will show negative for mites, but if a biopsy is done, it'd show the mites present. But still, why so localized?

I wouldn't worry too much about Cushings...I only mentioned it bc chronic skin issues can be a sign of undiagnosed Cushings, and that was one of the cardinal signs for my Wylie. Unless your kiddo has other symptoms, I would doubt it's Cushings...but still, had to mention it just in case she did have other odd symptoms.
