| Scheduling First Dental I was brushing Gizmo's teeth last night, like I do every night, and I noticed his teeth in the back were getting very dirty. So, I have an appointment on Thursday for a dental tech to evaluate him and discuss when to schedule the blood work and cleaning. Normally, I'm not nervous, but I am this time. Despite being very diligent with his teeth, it feels like I failed Gizzyman. I've gotten dentals for my other dogs, but it was when I was living with my family, and usually wasn't there to pick the pup up. I'm taking the day off for his teeth cleaning (working from home) and I think, like any "surgery" I'll just have to keep an eye on him. Any pearls of wisdom?

| I'm in your shoes, looking at first-time dental cleanings for my boys. It doesn't matter how diligent you are, genetics and small mouths play a big role (although I keep telling my boys that if they would let me use the Sonic Care, they probably wouldn't need to go in). Some people recommend soft food the night after a cleaning, especially if extractions are required. A lot of doggies are just fine afterwards. I'll keep Gizmo in my prayers for an easy dental.

| No pearls here. It will be ok. They should have dental xray capability, esp. if extracting any. I'm forced to know a little bit about dentals b/c my mentor is obsessed with teeth. So if you have any questions, ask away. Ellie (12) with all her issues had a dental in June. Did fine. They may not release him til evening...

| Definitely best to get them done. The repercussions from not doing them are too severe. Knock wood, I have never had a problem with any of my pups having dentals. My old man George recently had one...I was terrified because he is at least 14 and has a collapsing trachea. I went to a specialist and he did just fine! You will be relieved when it is over and be smothered with sweet yorkie kisses! I don't have any pearls either. Let us know how Gizmo does.

| Good luck! He will do fine. Jackson has had 2 and it's always nerve-wrecking but he came thru great each time. He hated me for about 24 hours though LOL... was so mad at me!! He got over it and had sparkly white teeth to boot. It's so worth it.
