| Dog food suggestions I am thinking of switching Charlie to more natural type dog food. Can anyone give me some good suggestions for brands? He's on royal canine now. I read done stuff that bade me want to go more on the natural side but have no idea what to get. |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Mine are eating blue buffalo life protection senior and adult food. Their poop is normal, coats are shiny. I still wonder if I should change the food because there are a lot of complaints. My Yorkies seem to like eat and they eat it. I mix a little chicken and veg. canned food in with the dry. It is hard to choose food, there is so many out there. Keep researching and I know you will choose the best food. . |

| My dogs are eating Amicus. They like it and do well on it. We feed all our dogs the same food, even our 5 month old pup.

W/that being said, I feed my guys Canine Caviar Open Sky. It's grain free duck w/chickpeas. We rotate between Wilderness, venison w/split peas, they seem to do the best on those 2 formulas. I chose this food bc I have 2 w/yeast issues & they need a food w/no potato, no 'sugary' food. Plus I like that it's not a busy food w/all kinds of different proteins bc I have another that's intolerant of a few ingredients (that I know of, pumpkin, beef maybe chicken & eggs) & if he was to be intolerant of a kibble w/a bunch of different proteins & ingredients, I'll never figure out what it was that triggered it. They also eat premade raw for 1 meal. Lastly (I promise haha!), is he's doing well on RC? I made a huge mistake by getting another brand that's very popular awhile back & all my guys had some negative issues w/ it. Mimi had anal gland issues & everybody else had softer poopies on it...so we switched back to CC. Learned my lesson, why switch when they're doing well on it.

I agree with Jenny.. when looking in switching his food you have to look at all points. I had to find a new food for Peanut- it seemed all the foods I was trying on him were making him worse. When I tried CC I was at my wits end. Thankfully Peanut has been doing wonderful on CC. I love the Duck as Jenny has said it has Chickpeas. I really think the peas in some of the past kibbles we tried was making Peanut worse!! So I would say figure out why you want to switch and then find a food for those reasons... if Charlie is doing fine on RC then you may want to leave him ... Switching him around can start a can of worms you don't want to open!!

Well actually one night he was itching a lot and it lasted ihrough a few days. I mean really itching. Although I did just give him a dose of Triflexis (which I usually only need to give him once every three months. I only give it when I see fleas again). But it has never caused him any problems yet, (the Triflexis). But he seems ok now. the itching lasted a couple days. It was some sort of reaction. Anyway, on researching I read that a natural dog food was healthier. He's on the royal canine for yorkies right now. I'm not sure I will give him Triflexis again. Seeing him itch like that really stressed me out. That had to be what it was. Last edited by Christinee; 09-06-2013 at 01:12 PM. | |

Its funny you mention the itching and Trifexis..We just tried a dose of Trifexis for the first time and Foxy has itched herself crazy..Never thought it was the Trifexis, thought maybe food issues..etc...

| I've got mine on Blue Buffalo Freedom. I want to eventually switch to raw food |

Senior Yorkie Talker | My opinion... If you don't have time or money for the raw diet, ziwipeak is just as good compared to them. Super low ingredients, and decently priced. We did like Evo till the more recent recall, luckily either dogs (we only had one at the time) did not become sick. We did get money back and free coupon for their food again, it'd good for a year or two. Life's abundance is another great organic dog food for a reasonable price. Our first dog was on it until we switched him over. I used this site and found it super helpful in my search for Healthy dog food for our two Biewers. My suggestion is checking it out they do a great job breaking down the food ingredients. Plus it's helpful to read what others posted comments about it. A little confused here...you say you give Triflexis every 3 months when you see fleas. If you mean Trifexis this is for HW prevention and also to help with fleas which should be given every month, not every 3 months just for flea protection. I tried looking up the other "Triflexis" just in case there was something different but came up with nothing. I feel your pain on finding a good food, so many choice's out there, drives you insane trying to find the perfect one for our guys. Good luck.

| After he itched like that I did some research and found a lot of bad reviews on Triflexis so I am worried about giving it to him again. It works so well for him too. IDK what to do on that now. He's never had a reaction to it before which is why I started researching his food. Then again, he's never had a reaction to his food either. |
