| Homemade food Ok so my mom has my dog I got as a teen. He's a maltese and has allergies and what not. My mom started cooking for him years ago and he hasn't had issues with allergies since. I've always said I would cook for my dog if I ever got another dog. So now that I have little Milo I would love to cook for him but should I wait until he is older? He's still VERY VERY tiny and younger than I thought when we got him last week (told almost 10 and is actually 7weeks). I just don't want to do anything harmful to him. Thanks!

| I would feed a solid puppy food for now. He has had enough change in his life without risking upsetting his belly right now.

| Re: That's what I was thinking. When do you think a good time would be to do so though just for future reference? =) Thanks again.

| Puppies need more calories, more calcium, more love, more everything, so he needs to eat good food made especially for puppies. Home cooking is great, but if not done properly, they can get sick from lack of vital vitamins & nutrients. Many YT'ers home cook, but they get their recipe from vet nutritionists & add supplements. Please do your research b4 home cooking. All the best for your new pup!

Most agree that one year old is a good time to switch to an adult food. BalanceIt does have supplements/recipes for pups younger than one year. But they need approval from your vet first. Good luck with little Milo! He's a cutie

| I would wait until a year but when you do, do it you need to make sure you are using a recipe from a vet nutritionist and a supplement for home cooking or you could do more harm to your dog then good.
