| puppy food and meals When did you stop feeding your pup "puppy" food? Minnie is on Blue Buffalo Small Breed Puppy and we are almost through her first bag. She is 4 months old. How long is she considered "puppy"? She is such a baby to me lol And how much should I be feeding her? I forgot to as my vet when she had her last shots. She currently weighs 2.2 lbs and I let her eat when ever she wants. She never just eats a lot at one time just grazes through out the day. My vet said that was fine when I first got her but didn't think to ask if it was ok to continue as she got older |

| Puppy food until around a year old. I have always free feed no matter the age. I would look on the bag for how much it says she should eat.

| Blue Buffalo (and most other brands of) puppy food is until one year. Royal Canin puppy food goes to 10 months. A lot of people free feed well into adulthood. There's nothing wrong with that. If Minnie is at a good weight & if you think she's a good judge of her food intake, then free feeding should be fine. Plus, she's tiny. You want to make sure that she has access to food when she needs it. As far as the amount of food...it really depends on the dog. Check your bag, although a lot of times pups don't eat exactly how much is recommended on the bag. I would think that at 4 months & 2.2 pounds, she should probably be eating in between 1/4-1/2 cup a day. I hope that helps

Most yorkies are full grown by then.. If Free Feeding works for you and your pup is happy with it that is awesome. As for the amount i would think at least 1/2 per day.. I personally prefer scheduled feeding because I like to know exactly how much my dogs are eating..

Thanks for all the info everyone. I think we will keep free feeding and see as she gets bigger if it continues to work for us. I have such a varied schedule I like her to eat whenever she wants.
