My yorkie is scratching and losing hair. He is on flea prevention and rarely goes outside, and when does go we are in the car.He nibbles on his front paws and is losing hair on his left side. I thought it could be food allergies so I switched his food how long will it be before I see a change. I also have been putting apple cider vinegar on him to help relief him of some itching. What else can I do.

What was he eating and what did you switch to?

It took Riley a several weeks to be completely clear of his allergies but I saw a Huge Improvement after just 7-days, but that was with Canine Caviar...

I gave him Benadryl but I had taken him to the Vet to confirm it was food allergy and was given the appropriate dosage for his weight, etc. to give to him. I didn't give it for long.

He was on Innova I switched him to blue buffalo grain free

hmmmmmm

I know there are several people who feed BB with good results. I would definitely give it a few weeks unless you start to see new symptoms with the BB... or there is absolutely no improvement.

I switched to Canine Caviar and within just a few days the itching stopped, I love this CC. If you are interested go to chewy.com that is where I ordered mine,ordered it on a Monday and was on by door steps Wednesday they shipped Fed X

Yes!! Canine Caviar is Great and everyone I know who made the switch to it saw Improvement after just a few days... Of course each pup is different but Riley has never been better and I won't even think about switching unless he started having issues with it.

Thanks he's not scratching as much since i have been spraying him with apple cider vinegar but this is only the second day

I was going to suggest ACV. I'm glad it's helping him.

Usually front paw licking (exclusive) is a food allergy. It may be a few weeks before it's out of his body.

Is Mr. Neko your Yorkie? If so, that's hilarious...love the name.

Yes he is my very demanding baby and yes he started nibbling at his paws first he was doing that for a month or so now he has been scratching a lot mainly on his left side

Poor baby! I understand your pain and frustration!!

Peanut was in the same boat as Neko. I went through so many different foods, Benadryl, hydrocortisone cream, itch shampoo- you name it I tried it!

The hydrocortisone really did help for Peanut on the “hot spots” I took him to the Vet and the Vet gave him the cream, and Benadryl pills. The Vet also sent home some "neopolydex" that really helped those spots clear up as well.

This shampoo I found at Petco, helped a little too.

I would highly recommend taking your into the Vet see what he says- he can send home some meds to help him in the meantime. I would also look into a different food. I highly recommend CC, Peanut is on CC and he is doing great! He went from an hot spot biting his leg hairs off itchy red mess, to a perfectly pink tummy, no itchy, no hot spot baby! He loves the food too!!

Theresa (RileyDC) recommend the food to us and I gave it a try, I thought to myself It can’t get any worse!! I’m so glad I did!! I know a couple other YT’ers were having the same issues with their babies, they have tried CC and have seen a difference in a week’s worth of feeding~ It might work for Neko, and it might not, but to me it would be worth the try!!

Whatever you decide, I hope you find something that helps your baby!!

Well I ended up leaving work early because when I called to check up on Neko my son informed me that he looked miserable. I left work and took him to the vet he got a prednisone shot and a injection for itching. They sent him home with antibiotics and prednisone. He also encouraged me t continue doing what I was doing with ACV. I will keep you guys informed i hate to see my baby in pain.
