| Yorkie Weight Hey All! So, Dex will be 2 next month and weighs in at 4lb 3 oz. My concern is this: When I feel his back I can feel his spine. He has always felt kind of bony to me. He eats adequately and runs and plays normally. I have asked the vet about this and she stated that he appeared to be fine and healthy. My question is: IS anyone else on here have a yorkie that feels kind of bony. He doesn't look emaciated of anything, but just can feel his spine and hip bones some. There is always food left over when he eats, so it's not that he doesn't have access to enough food. Can anyone elaborate. Should I be concerned? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yeah, others here have posted about having a more bony yorkie. It's good that your vet thinks all is fine. What about if you gave him some calorie dense treats...such as little blobs of peanut butter on your finger, or little pieces of cheese...does he like that kind of stuff?

| My Peanut is kinda “boney” too- he is 5 years and 4 pounds. If the vet has told you he appeared healthy, you shouldn't worry- However if you are you can get a second opinion or tell your Vet you are worried and maybe run some blood work-..? I can feel Peanut’s spine, and hip bones as well- they don’t stick out but I can feel them. Look at that link, that should help you some- I took a picture of Peanut – looking down, and his picture looks to the T like the “ideal” weight. I think some dogs are just “boney” all dogs are built different- just like humans.

| My Luci that I took in as a Re-Home is 5 yrs old and and is just under 3 pounds and she is very boney. She has been vet checked & Blood work and all is fine with her. She is just a small girl.

YT 2000 Club Member | Teeka was just at the vets last week. I was concerned that she was also too thin. You can feel her back bone and ribs, but as long as you can't see it, it is a good weight. He said her weight (3.6lbs) is perfect for her tiny frame. He says she is just going to be small. I hope this helps!

| Ruger feels bony but he has so much hair he looks just fine. Vet says he's fine also and he weighs in at 12 lbs. Personally, I would let the vet and the scale be your guide, but when I pet other healthy dogs they all seem bony. Have you ever hosed your dog down for a bath? There ain't a lot of dog there without all the hair. |
