| I really like Fromm (if you can find it locally...it's only sold at independent pet stores). They have a puppy formula in their Gold line but all of the formulas in their Four Star Nutritional line are formulated for all life stages. We have been rotating Toki through the grain-free varieties since the end of April and I'm very pleased with this company. We throw different brands into our rotation but always have Fromm on hand and come back to it. I also like Acana (what my sister's yorkie eats) and have had good results with Blue Buffalo Wilderness for puppies. As a pup, Toki came to us from the breeder eating Earthborn. We eventually transitioned her to Blue Buffalo Chicken and Oatmeal for puppies and then to BB Wilderness for puppies (available at major pet store chains). There are a lot of options out there...I know that others will have good suggestions for you as well! |

| "Yorkies For Dummies" and "Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide".....These are two books I recommend ALL my new "parents" to read BEFORE getting their new baby, especially if they have never owned a Yorkie before.....I recommend Royal Canin Puppy Started Mousse for babies that are just being weaned. Your baby was actually in the middle of being weaned....since she was taken too early from her momma, you will need to complete the weaning process. The Puppy Starter mousse is soft and enables baby to eat and get all the nutrients this baby needs to prevent major problems with skin, hair, teeth, and bones, as well as tissue and organ development. You can add a little goats milk to soften kibble, and mix that with the Puppy Starter, like a gruel for the baby. As baby gets older....10 weeks...., you can cut out the goats milk and just soften with warm water, and then cut back on the water until baby is eating the kibble. The Royal Canin puppy kibble is highly palatible and softer for baby to chew. Please get those two books so you are better prepared to deal with all issues you will be encountering with this baby....next will probably be vaccinations and records of such! |

| I bought both of those books when Huey was born and so had 9 weeks to study and prepare before bringing him home. I have now given them to a friend who's furbaby should have been born yesterday so she can study and prepare her children before bringing her new furkid home. They are great books and I have referenced them over the last few years when I have had questions. I agree and highly recommend preparing well IN ADVANCE of bringing a yorkie-or any other puppy-into a home. Good luck with your new furbaby and keep us posted of Lulus progress!

| Sorry, forgot to address the original question: as for the eating, I am not the type to cook for myself, much less for a dog, so I put the kibble he had been started on at his breeders house down for him, and when he got hungry enough, he ate. Huey would sometimes go 24hours without eating kibble, but as long as he took water well and the potty training treats, I didn't vworry a lot. I had him on purina one puppy and then adult purina one small bites, but since joining this forum, I learned the error of my ways and he is now on Blue Buffalo grain free and he loves it. I would listen to these experienced yorkie owners...I have learned so much!!

| People who get there pups to young have this problem normally. Yorkies should stay with there mom until 12 weeks. I would try maybe hand feeding her the dry food or maybe make a game out of it and toss a piece of food and see if she will eat it then.

| I think it's sad that your baby is not still with his mom. My puppies are still nursing a good portion of the time at 8 weeks. I do introduce other food to them at about 5 weeks and at first I grind it fine and add a little water so it's like much. You can also use goats milk as well. By 8 weeks, I just break it into smaller pieces with a meat tenderizer and they seem to like it when I add a little warm water to that. I feed Fromm. Good luck with your baby. I would make sure to have some nautical on hand if she is refusing her food.... And at this point, I would try to add a little diced up chicken breast to her food to entice her.... |
