| Baby aspirin and Arthritis? I was wondering if anyone gives baby aspirin to their senior yorkies for minor arthritis as an alternative to help them? If so how much, and do you go by weight? |

Is your dog taking any glucosamine/chondroiten supplements? Many members have reported excellent results with these products. More info: Remedies for Arthritis in Dogs: Glucosamine, Chondroitin Sulfate, Steroids, and NSAIDs | petMD

| I completely agree with Kathy....in fact my husband (who has a heart problem) has to take a daily aspirin - and it even gives him occasional nosebleeds.... Not Harry, but Rosie our labrador ended up having severe arthritis in her back. It was suggested that we try her on Glucosamine, and I truly believe it helped ease her pain during the last couple of years of her life....she could move much more 'freely' and it was easier for her to get up from laying down It only took a week or so for it to kick in, too - well worth a try Sally + Harry x |

| My vet said that vets are not recommending aspirin like they used to because of some problems it can cause. I would suggest you talk to your vet about pain management.

| NO!!! NOT ASPIRIN!!! Blood thinner, can cause gastric upset....potential for causing more serious problems than benefit it MAY provide....Cosequin has been like a miricle drug for my seniors....I have experienced first hand, the effectiveness of this drug on arthritic joints....and it can be given long term, with no side effects. My little Crickette has been on it for years and not had any adverse reactions, and her condition with her joints is so severe, if she misses a week of her Cosequin, she actually can not get up. That happened to us one time and from then on, I have several bottles on hand so we never run out again! Try Cosequin, you will definately see improvement, I am sure.... |

| Baby apsirin and arthritis Thank you all for your responses. Just so you all know I didn't give sassy any baby aspirin. I wanted your opinions first. Does anyone have any reccomendations of a specific brand of glucosamine/chondroitin that is over the counter that works well? |

| We use Dasuquin...Cosequin is also very good (and by the same company I believe). We get these at our vet's office but I want to say that I've seen it sold at some independent pet stores. With the Dasuquin for small breeds, we gave Toki (she weighs around 9 pounds) 1/2 tablet daily for a month and then my vet said it'd be fine to go down to as little as 1/4 tablet daily. I'd ask your vet for brand recommendations and amounts specifically for your yorkie though. |
