| Vital Dog Food? Does anyone know about this food? Bison & Beef Dog Food Recipe | Freshpet I bought a 1 pound roll and it went over well...but...I want to make sure it's a decent food before I continue using it and I've never been good at dog food ingredients and comparisons. I have to feed a grain free, rosemary free food and I would prefer something fresh or raw. I do feed Nature's Variety Organic Chicken frozen raw diet but it isn't always available when I need it so I'd like to have a second food I can use when I need to. The Boost food went over well until they got tired of it...they really do like fresh or raw much better. |

| I have used it before with good luck! I don't feed it on a daily basis, but I have mixed it with his dry food before. He LOVED it. I've never read anything bad, but admittedly haven't done a whole lot of research on it.

| I've recently started using this too and was wondering the same thing. My 2 are so finicky but they love this. They can't eat it fast enough!

| Just an update... Moo loves this food and does 'o.k.' on it...Maddie Jo enjoyed it the first day or so and then started throwing up after each meal. I was up and down with her several times last night...thank goodness for disposable potty pads...they make great puke pads in the middle of the night! So, we'll be going back to Nature's Variety Organic Chicken raw frozen diet. I wish they made that in a dry food that would not make Moo break out in bumps/whelts and make her itchy. It seems like every dry food we try Moo gets itchy, licks all the time and breaks out in little bumps all over. A raw or home cooked diet is the only thing that makes any difference for her...hubby wants me to be able to leave food out for them so we don't have to worry about being slaves to a feeding schedule for them...I just don't know how to make everyone happy. This allergy/food trial business is so frustrating... |

| Sorry Maddie Jo threw up after eating vital...wonder if she has a food intolerance? I just recently found out that Turbo has an intolerance to beef, he threw up after eating NV raw beef. He's also allergic/intolerant of pumpkin, so there's not a lot of foods he can't eat. He's also enjoying NV Organic Chicken. Vital has carrageenan which is a controversial ingredient. Carrageenan Just Don't Do It I've also read that flaxseed oil is more problematic (bc it can get rancid) but ground flaxseed is very beneficial. Since you are already feeding raw, have you tried ziwipeak? It doesn't need refrigeration & they don't recommend it either bc it changes the composition of the food. The only down side is that they recommend using all the food once opened in 8 weeks...wish they made smaller sized bags, there's no way mine will finish it in 8 weeks time.

Maybe I'll try a bag of the dry and see how it goes...I really would love to find a dry food that I can leave out for them but that seems to be darned near impossible. It's amazing how different 2 sisters from the same litter can be! | |

| Just an after thought. I purchased a new roll this week at Petsmart. I fed it to the dogs this morning and while Max just turned his nose up at it, Lily ate most of her meal when I realized the sell by date was 7/17/12!!!!! I am so livid! Thank goodness Lily was fine all day, but I will be marching my butt up to Petsmart to raise some hell! Lesson learned? Check the date.
