| Backward sneezing?!!! I think Bentley is backward sneezing...that's what the vet said on the phone anyway. It sounded like he was gasping for breath over and over and he kept licking his nose over and over. It also kind of sounded like he was having back to back hiccups. The vet told me there's nothing you can do to fix it. Sooo scary! Has this happened to any of you?! |

| Reverse sneezing? You can cup your hand over the nose to stop episodes. Switching to a completely grainleass diet can actually stop it completely in some cases. An allergen test is often done when a vet suspects this, except in Beagles as its a breed apparent issue.

| Yes, Zhoie does it sometimes when she gets super excited when daddy gets home and lays down in the floor. I lightly pinch the bridge of her nose and it's over.

| Georgie has had episodes of reverse sneezing. I agree it can be scary. I blow in his little nose and that helps. It seems to be fairly common. If you search here you will find many threads in the topic.

| Sugar does it when she is overly excited (like every time she sees DD who lives in Michigan) or when she drinks too fast. I lightly massage her throat and it stops. She actually runs to me when she is having a problem with this. Curri has them too but I can't pinpoint how to stop hers yet.....

| Thanks everyone! I'll try those when/if it happens again. When it was happening he kept coming to me but when I would try and pet him and calm him he would just bite me super hard |

| Momo does it all the time. Most of the time, they'll recover on their own but you can use all the methods everyone mentioned. They need to swallow in order for the gagging to stop. Momo knows the word 'swallow' & he will stop shortly after I say it loll. If it's a bad one (which happens after he gulps his food up), I hold his nose downward & it'll open his air way & help it stop.

| Roxie goes through phases where she backward sneezes like crazy. I just try to pet her and speak to her softly until it stops. I think she might be allergic to other cats, lol is this possible? |

| My Yorkie just started doing the backward sneezes. I thought he was trying to throw up and panic, but the Vet said it was a backward sneeze. |
