2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Update: My 4 Porky Yorkies weight loss Success! My four Tea Pot Yorkie members are still Tea Pots but I am glad to say that they are some what more slender. Lol I decided to put my 4 porky Yorkies (as I call them) on diets over a year ago because they were just getting to fat. They are large dogs all except Ruby who is the smallest but still weights in at 10 lbs.. Yikes ! * I cut out the treats after each one of them got groomed. Now they all get a tiny morsel treat and only one large biscuit after all of them are done with grooming. * They are on schedules meals, No More free feeding. Three meals a day that equal a total of approximately three cups. I fed them in separate bowels at first never allowing them to finish uneaten food left from the others. They were allowed to eat for 10 mins each time. Any food left went back in the food bucket. * Once they were use to the new portions and limited time I went to feeding them out of one bowel three times a day. When it gone it's gone. * Most importantly I cracked down on my husband who were feeding them after my son had already done it. He would see an empty bowel and fill it back up. Even thou he knew I was changing thier feeding habits. and has put them on a diet. So they were getting double meals each day. Now my son is the only one who feeds them on a set schedule that I put on his chore list. As of last Friday they have all lost (Drum Roll Please!) A total of # 14 Pounds . .. . We still have a long way to go. Quincy and Miah use to be at 9 bls before getting them fixed. Brandi has always been a big girl we had he fixed at 6 months old. Three of them lost an average of 4 pounds each and Ruby lost 2. I just hope that they can maintain the loss during the winter months. Doubtfully but I will try to find ways to exercise them so that they keep the weight off. Any suggestion on how I might do that ?

| Way to go! I'm sure a lot of fetch and chase games in the house will help burn calories in the wintertime. Even taking a brisk walk out there in the cold will help burn lots, since the body has to rev up to keep them warm. Good luck with maintaining the weight loss. That's always the hardest part

| Woohooo! That's really great. What a good doggy mom. I know how hard it is to see them begging and not give in too. Congrats! They will live longer because of it and thank you later on.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That's great. 2 of mine are overweight and I am trying to get them slimmed down. I hope I have as much success as you did. I have to be stricter.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Thanks guys..... true it does take the whole family and a lot of hard work to be succsessful. The hardest part is putting up with Brandi when she's Hungry.... she is a bear! SHe barks and barks and barks this very high pitched bark until I call my sons name to feed her. Usually because he had forgotten to feed them or some times cuz she just expects more. She's getting use to the new food rations.. but she's not happy about it at all. You would think that I was starving her, poor girl.

| Congrats on your successful weight loss with the 4 porky yorkies. We call our Maggie our porky yorkie. LOL She's about 1.5 - 2 lbs over weight by our estimate. We have recently cut back on her food intake also, so hopefully we will see positive results also. Our other dogs (Ginger and Lilly) are very slim and solid and seem to moderate their food just fine. We also free feed them, and have done so all their lives. We just have to keep Maggie out of the feeder and we put it up at night and during parts of the day now. It seems to be helping. I know your dogs (hopefully no longer "porky yorkies") will be healthier because of your intervention and dilligence. Job well done! Losing a total of 14 lbs is impressive! Congrats again!

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Congrats on your successful slimming program!. Here are a couple of tips that you might not have utilized yet. Do not feed the dogs in the evening at all. If you feed twice a day, let the last meal be at 4pm or so, and let it be the smallest meal. Then every one out for a walk, or training time. For your trick training - which btw burns lots of calories, use green beans, or cheerios, or something very low low cal. For a game of ball fetch, if your house has stairs and their joints are healthy, throw that ball up the stairs! Beg, stand, sit, is excellent muscle conditioner and burns calories too Treadmills can work too, if you have one. Try to find a "playdate" place for Yorkies. Here we have a meet up once per week at different locales. OUr dogs love the game of "Find the toy". The toy is their reward. They go crazy going up and down the stairs, running around, reaching up to sniff, etc, etc. Think about a home made obstacle course. Take them through one at a time. Have some low jumps, a balance beam, a teeter, and a tunnel they go through. There is a thread on here, of someone who made a homemade agility/obstacle course. I know this is not for everyone, but I take the pups for indoor swimming twice per week. We do have a doggy pool here. Underwater treadmill work is great too. A few ideas for you. And congrats once again!

| You could get some puzzle food toys for them so they could "work out" while eating. Favorites in our house include the Kong Wobbler and Premier Twist and Treat. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Great advise.. thanks! Some we already do other I could see doing. Love the idea of a tread mill. We just have nowhere to put one. Plus I think their mama' could use it too.. Quote:
