Best soft puppy food

Hi, I have an 8 week old girl. I was wondering if any of you could tell me the best soft food to use? Is there a difference in which I feed her? I also give her puppy chow, the breeder said to give her that.

Of course, I do not send my babies out to new owners until they are at least 12 weeks old....at 8 weeks of age, I am giving mine Royal Canin Puppy Starter Mousse, mixed with the RC Starter Kibble for Puppies.

Puppy chow is one of the worst foods possible. I highly recommend this.

I can't afford food from the veternary and I have never heard of this. So What else would you reccommend?

What is the Best Type of Puppy Food to Use?

I wouldnt use only canned. This is why.
Dog food is divided into three types: moist, semi-moist, and dry kibble. Among the three, the best one to use would be the dry type of puppy food because it contains more meat protein. It is also more practical, cost-effective, better for keeping the teeth clean, and easy to digest. Moist puppy food is also easy to digest, but it is more expensive and spoils more rapidly if not stored properly. In addition, moist foods are commonly composed of 75 percent water, so they contain fewer nutrients. Another concern with moist puppy food is its affect on the teeth. Its soft texture means that more of it will get in between the teeth and stay on the surface of the teeth, making them more prone to cavities.



The best option is usually to feed your puppy a combined diet of dry kibble with moist dog food. You may either mix them together or vary them from meal to meal. You can also use raw meat in combination with the dry kibble.

Secondly you get what ya pay for. Cheap food = unhealthy pet = more vet visits = more expensive in the long run.
Taste of the Wild is quite popular. Acana, Orijen (awesome but expensive as heck), Wellness, EVO, and Canidae, also tend to get good reviews and are among the more common ones found in pet stores. NEVER get food from a grocery store its poor quality and cheaper for a reason.

I do mix the cesar and puppy chow together. I don't just give her dry or moist food. I bought the puppy chow because that is what the breeder told me to get. I buy Cesar because that is what she also said she uses. I bought the food from a pet store not a grocery store. I have always fed all my pets puppy, dog or cat chow and all have been in great health.

Why is Puppy Chow bad?

Both brands are sold in a grocery store as well. They are not quality foods by any means.

If you have alway feed puppy, dog and cat chow before why are you questioning it now? I would do my own research to find out why others are not recommending it and draw your own conclusions.

I would rather give mine actual meats and veggies than wet food especially not Cesars myself.

I feed Proplan for years my dogs did great on it but for personal reasons it no longer works for me.

I now feed FROMM to mine. Small dog = Low feed cost compared to feeding a Golden Retriever. Each of my Yorkies eats 1/4 to 1/2 cup of kibble a day. In my experience the higher the quality of dog food you get the less you must feed.

Buddy (golden) would eat +5 cups of Dog Chow when I rescued him (previous owner said he feed it) and now he eat 2 cups of FROMM daily. He would have large, smelly, loose poops several times a day on the Dog Chow but on the FROMM he generally only poops once at it is well formed and not super smelly. The FROMM seems to work well for him based on the output. His coat when I got himself was rough, thin, and dull. Now his coat is thick, soft, and very shiny.

I feed Miles TOTW; it only costs about 25.00 via the internet for a 15 lb. bag which lasts about 4-5 mos. I also supplement the TOTW with Wellness puppy soft food which also costs about 25.00 for 12 12 oz cans which also lasts 4-5 mos. as 1 can can last me at least a week.

Yes, you can also feed doggie plain chicken, rice, and veggies. Much better than puppy chow.
