Eucalyptus Oil for fleas/ticks

Does anyone use this? My furbabies take the Comfortis flea pill but it only seems to work for about 3 weeks. A friend of mine in Texas suggested using a mixture of eucalyptus oil and water on them. I must admit, it works! I mixed it in a spray bottle and sprayed both dogs, their bedding, our furniture and an area rug under our bed. They have not had any reaction to it at all and I don't see any fleas. I asked our vet about it and of course she discouraged it....she said it was homeopathic and of course, most vets don't "sell" homeopathic products!

I have used it before and half apple cider vinegar and half water works for as well

I use a citronella based natural pet product on mine. Seems to work pretty well.

When we brought Daisy home she was COVERED in fleas! I bathed her with a puppy oatmeal bath twice, rinsed her with half water half vineger and the put a mixture of coconut oil, tea tree oil and another blend of EO used to repel bugs and heal the bites called purification I left it with the oils on over night in her crate and bathed her the next morning with the oatmeal bath again. worked like a charm! I have only seen 2 fleas since and they were both dead.

Just a word of warning....I use a homeopathic solution of peppermint oil and water for my pups...I googled tea tree oil cause one of my friends posted (facebook) to use it to repels ticks when out in the yard...ON HUMANS...I wanted to see if it could be used on the furbutts...said it was toxic to animals...tea tree oil also feels burn on the skin...I would read up on this one first before using it again....JMO

My parents go this from a holistic vet in are area

15 drops (I use more) peppermint oil
1 cup water
put in spray bottle....DO NOT spray directly on the animal...saturate a paper towel and wipe it on her/him...has to be done every couple of days but it does work for fleas and ticks...I was out in the yard the other day and decided to try it on myself because of those tiny black flies that leave HUGE welted bites on me....it did work but the mixture did make my skin feel kinda like a cold burn...if that makes sense...sort of like icy hot would feel...You don't want to spray anything directly on your pet...I would google the eucalyptus oil just to make sure it isn't toxic to animals..

I will read some more about it. I have it diluted and it has not irritated my babies at all.

Mink sheen shampoo has citronella in it as a natural flea / tick repellent; however, I still use advantix 2 on Miles as well as I dont want to take any chances. It was recommended by the vet.

I used Dr. Mercola's Natural Flea and Tick Defense spray (lemon grass oil, cinnamon oil, sesame oil, castor oil - be sure NOT to get into eyes!) on my very allergic bichon and my yorkie who has CT (need to limit fragrances) and a mature poodle with really good results.

For the yard I found "Mosquito Barrier" very good in killing all those darn bugs.

We feed them a raw diet which helps, too!
