I was just reading and found this information, I thought I would post it here since I didn't see it on the dangerous food sticky.

Avocado
No matter how good you think the guacamole is, you shouldn't give it to your dog. Avocados contain a substance called persin. It's harmless for humans who aren't allergic. But large amounts might be toxic to dogs. If you happen to be growing avocados at home, keep your dog away from the plants. Persin is in the leaves, seed, and bark, as well as in the fruit.

I have a friend who has chickens and she told me one day that 2 of her chickens died after eating avocados.

This is such a good reminder! Our dogs are so tiny that what may seem like a tiny serving to us is proportionally a huge serving to our little guys. So, it probably wouldn't take much at all for our dogs to get sick. Thanks for the post!

I give mine a little for snacks. I've always given my dogs avocado's and have never had any problems at all.
