NEW TO Yorkie Talk

Maybe someone can shed some insight. I have a 9 year old Yorkie, who just had his 2nd seizure in a year. He had one 6 months ago. The vet said it is not uncommon and to just hold him while he has it, and it should stop within 10 minutes. Then feed him some food right away as his blood sugar will be down from the seizure.

He does not have a liver shunt, but sometimes a collapsed trach, if his weight goes over 6, but overall good health.

He is supposed to get his teeth cleaned and be put out next week. I am really worried about doing that after he had a seizure.

Has anyone else had seizures with their Yorkie? this is only his 2nd one.

I am not familiar with Yorkies having seizures, but I really think a second opinion from another vet would be a good idea. I wouldn't be comfortable having my dog put under anesthesia under the circumstances.... Hope you get the info you need and can find a vet that can get the answers you need to find out the reason for the seizures.

My dog shaffer had seizures, usually one or two a year started when he turned 3. I called them episodes, he would walk in circles get all disoriented then try to bury himself in pillows blankets all the while still out of it. I had every test done and nothing was ever found, they were always at the change of season, either in oct, or April. The many vets I went to never had any answers, but thought that the seizure meds were not needed because he had them so infrequent. Now for the ct, I had two dogs with ct, my vet would not clean fifes teeth, said the risk was to high. Part of the issue with ct is that it's cumulative, the more it happens the worse it gets, it can't repair itself. I would ask your vet about the dental with the ct, I don't know how bad your dogs ct is or how bad his teeth are, I would need to weigh the options and discuss with my vet and decide what is best for you and your dog.

I have a dog with a seizure disorder. I do not feed my yorkie after a seizure. I have had blood drawn in the vet's office immediately following a seizure and it is normal. I would consider a seizure that lasted as long as 10 minutes to be an extreme emergency. I would seek a second opinion from a neurologist.

I would not necessarily be concerned about putting my dog under simply because of a seizure, but I say that knowing what the cause of the seizures is in my dog.

I wouldn't recommend teeth cleaning while you have this concern.
Can I recommend a dental cleaning product that would provide good maintenance of the teeth. LebaIII for severe dirty teeth and plaque or petzlife for medium tartar.
