| questions after spaying Our yorkie was spayed 11 days ago, the vet stated to keep a collar on her for a week, which we have. We are now wondering if it is ok for her to be without a collar and if it is ok for her to lick the stitches. The stitches are still there and am wondering how long it will take for them to dissolve? Any info on this issue would be appreciated. Thank's yorkie lover! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | If you don’t want to use the collar, you can use clear deodorant, it’s bitter and they won’t lick more than a couple of times. Some people suggest using a baby’s onesie, but you would have to take it off occasionally to allow her to pee. As far as how long she before the stitches dissolve, this is a question best suited for your vet, as he knows exactly what type of stiches he used. In my own opinion, you've waited long enough, but I check with the vet on everything.

| I'd suggest that you check with your vet. Cailee was spayed 14 days ago. She had internal stitches and by the 8th day, all you could see was the scar so we didn't worry about licking(even though it was still a little rough, from scar tissue I guess). Like I said I'd check with the Vet since I don't know about external stitches and whether there is still a risk of infection. |
