Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | How much? How much should a 13 week old puppy be eating every day? I know Katie Scarlett may not eat as well as she adjusts to our new home. She did eat more today, but still not much at all. Just curious as to how much should she be eating? My breeder told me to just keep food out for the first few weeks and let her eat when she wants and then start a feeding schedule if we wanted to do that. I do believe we want to do the schedule because I don't want her to overeat. How much should be eating when on the schedule? I'm going to talk to our vet about this, but wanted some insight from you guys as well. Thanks for any help you can give me!

| I read in one of my yorkie books that young puppies should eat like 4-5 times a day. Uni ate nowhere NEAR that much. It was a hassle and headache to get her to eat at all her first 2 yrs. I think as long as she is hyper and playful and eating some, you don't really have to worry. It's if she's lethargic and not eating then yeah worry. Also what kind of food you feeding her?

| Abby is 13 weeks also.( born July 18) She weighs 2 1/2 lbs. I put down 1/4 cup of kibble at 6 am she eats maybe 1/2. I offer the rest to her at noon- she usually eats it. 1/4 cup more at 5pm which she eats,or I offer her the rest at 8pm. So.. 1/2 cup a day, offered 3 -4 times.(My 2 1/2 yo , 7 lb Ziva eats about 1/3 cup per day once a day!) We are feeding Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream (all life stages) |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Thanks for you input guys! I am feeding her the same food the breeder had her on. It is the Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier 28 Formula. Is this ok? She did eat a lot better this morning. I too put down 1/4 cup of the food and she ate about half with a little spoon of yogurt on top. Her breeder recommended the yogurt each morning with her food and has been doing that. So I didn't want to change up anything in order to avoid stomach upset. She's not lethargic at all. She is very playful and energetic. She loves to play and even runs around the house with me when I walked through doing some chores this morning. Of course I had my eye on her to make sure she was safe and not pottying (she had used the potty right before I let her walk with me in the house), and she just bounced along happily along the way. We then did a bit of grooming and she was happy then. We played some more and then she came on her own to lay next to me and is taking a nap right now. She seems happy and healthy. She is drinking the nursery water very well. She loves that! I also give her the NutriCal too. She loves it!

| Mina was 13 weeks old when I brought her home. She was given wet (1T) mixed with kibble (1/8 cp) and a tiny bit of water morning and evening. She was also given a snack in the middle of the day (cooked carrots, puppy biscuit, etc). As she grew she got more food morning and evening and still gets snacks, she is now 9month old. There are days where she eats big at one meal and not as much at the other. Usually she isn't that interested in food in the evening,as long as she eats a little and doesnt go to bed with an empty tummy. |
