| ![]() I just started millie on TOTW mixing it in with her old California Natural. Its Lamb and Rice, which she has been on basically her whole life, just different brands. As always, she picks around the old food and just eats the TOTW. Her poop doesn't necessarily look bad..just softer than I have ever seen it. I have NEVER seen a bad poop from Millie, which is the only reason why i'm posting, because this seems unusual. Even when she switches food immediately (like I said, she won't ever eat old food once I introduce a new food), her poop has always been small and firm. This is just out of character so I'm wondering if it's this particular food and not just switching causing it. The only other thing is she LOVESSSSSSSS it, so I guess I've been feeding her a little bit more than normal, but still a ridiculously low amount- she doesn't eat a lot. We have always free fed her (2 years old) because she passed out one time from low blood sugar and the vet said it was best. She's 3 pounds. Free feeding has never been a problem and it works for us. Anyone had this happen to them when their yorkie's poop is normally great? I've actually been using samples for her, and I need to buy a regular bag asap which is why I don't have a lot of time to figure out if it's the food! |

| ![]() Overfeeding can cause loose stools. I took a quick look at the two foods and it looks like California Natural is higher in calories per cup than TOTW, so that should not be a problem unless she is eating a lot more than usual. TOTW has many more ingredients than California Natural, so that could be the cause. There is a thread here about TOTW causing stinkier poops, even when the dog thrives on the food. Could be that TOTW is not the right food for your girl. If she has been eating CN for a long time, I wouldn't be eager to start playing around with food. However, if you choose to, you could maybe look at another brand. Some people who wanted to change from CN went to Nature's Variety new limited ingredient lines. I believe Natural Balance also has a lamb and rice formula.

| ![]() I'm sure it is not a matter of people not caring to respond. The views are probably interested readers who don't have any advice to add or experience to share. Sometimes it takes a couple days to receive more responses. I hope the TOTW works for your little one.

| ![]() Jackson ate TOTW Sierra Mountain with great success. His poops weren't even that stinky and they were always firm and solid. I would have to agree that CN is VERY limited ingredients and TOTW has more and it's probably just a change to her system. Often dogs will have loose stool when changing food for 1-2 weeks (as long as it's not diarrhea and it clears up, it's normal, but if it continues for over a month, then obviously the food is not working for her). Oh, and over-feeding would definitely cause loose stool. Jackson only ate about 1/2 cup per day (with a tablespoon of wet food each meal) and he's 16lbs and active.
